Fun Raynor-esque muni golf
Far too many municipal golf courses are boring and rudimentary. Do local governments think their golfers don’t deserve something interesting? Luckily, architect Erik Larsen was allowed to try a novel approach when he reconfigured St. Johns. Without necessarily copying the “template holes” of C.B. Macdonald and Seth Raynor, he used their geometric approach to bunker and green shapes to create something with an unusual and engaging look for the northeast-Florida public golf crowd. Slightly spotty conditioning aside, St. Johns is well worth a play while visiting the greater St. Augustine area.
Course is closing for renovations
Course was different. All fairway grass has been killed so the roll out was fantastic. Greens still putt a bit slow. Can’t wait for the 10 month renovation to be completed. I think The course will be a fantastic value to $.
Check in, cart,
From the time you drive in you feel welcome. Most professional staff I have been around. Only complaint is the closing for improvements in 2022.
Dead course
Love the layout, but the course neglected to mention that they started killing off the fairways and rough on the entire course more than a month ago in advance of a renovation project. So paid for a full price spot to play a course with no green grass anywhere. Miserable time.
Will be a nice course after planned renovations
Course could be good, but not until the multimillion dollar renovations are completed.
Great value
Great course all kinds of challenging holes. Great range, chipping green and putting green. Going to be interesting to see what happens with the revamp.
Course was great. Fairway grass all brown colored on purpose but in good shape. Monday so facility closed.
GPS took us to the wrong course. There are 2 St. John's courses in close proximity
We have used GolfNow on several occasions. This time we got to the course with the same name as our reservation. We were visiting the area so had no reason to think there were 2 courses with the same name. By the time we realized we were at the wrong course we could not get the the other course by our arranged tee time. We ended out playing at the other St, John's course but had to pay an additional green fee. It would be nice if Golfnow refunded the original green fee.
This in no way is a bad review for St. John's Golf Club because we never got to the course.
It is winding down
the course is winding down for its schedule total renovation in January. Everything except for the greens are in dormancy. No body rack the sand.
