Royal St. Augustine Golf and Country Club
About
Located in Florida’s oldest city, Royal St. Augustine Golf & Country Club offers a glimpse of the area’s lush foliage and native marshlands. The course has a visually interesting layout with elevated, sprawling greens and a variety of bunker shapes and sizes. The moguled fairways and sandy waste areas are two other distinguishing features of the course. It is a tight course with large greens and gentle undulations. The layout provides a “target-golf” experience that puts a premium on accuracy and distance control. The numerous bends in the course in combination with the blustery winds also makes proper club selection very important.

My first round in Florida ... never going back to PA :P Photo submitted by Eric3413 on 08/06/2013
Improved course conditions
I thought the course had improved conditions from previous time there. Had a blast.
Tight
Nice course with excellent tee boxes, fairways and greens. Staff was great. That’s the good news. Bad news? If you don’t hit it straight, don’t play here. I’m a 16 handicap so I’m normally in the 89-95 range. I probably lost 15 balls, some of which were actually good shots. Everything angles towards the OB. The jungle that’s always 10 yards off the fairway claims your ball. If it’s not the jungle, it’s the water (16 of 18 holes). I would have to play the round of my life to break 90 here. I would’ve been better off hitting a 9 iron off every tee box. If you like tight, unforgiving courses, this is your place.
Good deal for the cost
I thought the course was in great shape. For a community course, it beat our expectations. Only drawback was lunch only had hotdog available or premade sandwiches at the clubhouse. But TBH we weren’t there for the hotdogs
Location is best quality
Great location 3 miles from downtown. Much improved from when I played here last year but still a long way to go. Still a good deal for $37 for 9 holes 5 minutes from my house. I will return because of how close I am, but don’t go out of your way to play here until they do more improvements.
Fun course!
I have played this course several times over the past 20 years… I have always had a fun time at this course. I live in Georgia and we have always targeted St Augustine for our summer vacation. Although not for necessarily for golf, but this course is a fun layout, especially the par fives. The greens had recently been punched, but they actually rolled very good and Management has done a good job of keeping this course in good shape. I look forward to good times on this course in the near future. Hit them straight!
Royal St.Augustine
Course only had 9 holes open and it was not posted on app when I was booking, I feel I should be reimbursed my $66 plus my credits so I can book another course. Course was in terrible shape compared to last time I played this place back 2-3 months ago
Amazing course!
Great job to the team at the Royal! Amazing course.
Royal St Augustine Thursday Afternoon Tee Times
It would have been very helpful to have known in advance that the course has a standing Thursday afternoon scramble which takes precedence over all other tee times. I was unable to play the front 9 due to this. I would have made a reservation elsewhere had I known this was the case.
Some things need so much attention
This course is very tight, sloped fairways that repeatedly feed to water or tree lines. The short fairways are extremely hard and let the ball run but usually towards troublesome areas. The areas that have no grass are so prevalent it puts this course into the category of “ cow pasture “ for the money very overpriced track. So many better options in the area and cheaper. Save the money and keep looking, Imho
On “par” with expectations
Pleasantly surprised. Google reviews were mixed but my personal experience was positive. The condition and layout of the course was very nice. The greens were a little shaggy but they played pretty true. I found the value to be good and will go back to play again.
