The course features tree-lined fairways and large, fast greens. There is also the occasional two-tiered green to look out for. I will never play here again
I was informed on the first tee that the entire course was cart path only. If I had known, I would have played elsewhere. The starter was rude and said "too bad, that's just the way it is". I won't be back.
Course in good condition
The course is good condition, the layout is average.
Nice Course
Course is in good condition. Greens were good, but fast. Conditions were dry due to lack of rain. Bunkers filled. Course plays fair. GPS accurate to the pin and helpful in identifying hazards, carry, etc. staff was very welcoming. Played during the week, but sheet was full and pace of play was very good. Good value. Including range balls would be a nice perk. Would definitely play again.
Enjoyable Day
Conditions were very good. Greens in great shape. Bunkers filled. Staff was very pleasant and welcoming. Layout was good. GPS was accurate to pin. Played on a weekday, but it appeared the course was booked and pace of play was excellent. Would definitely replay.
Great set of Links
I have been a resident of NE Florida since 1995 and had never played a round here. Wow, beautiful layout and very well maintained. I would score this course in the Top 10 area wide maybe Top 5. I will be back and can not wait to see the place in a few months when things get green after this particularly hard freeze winter. The Tee Boxes, Fairways, Bunkers and Greens where all well maintained and I can not say enough about the practice areas. Putting green, chipping green and driving range where all Top Notch. Kudos to the Staff. I will be back.
Solid Play
First time on St. John’s - a solid course, not overtly challenging, but has well placed hazards that requires thought to your shot. Greens are well groomed and tee boxes maintained. Pace of play was very good, hardly held up more than 3 minutes, however played on a less than normal temperature day. Staff was friendly and informative. Will play again when back in the area.
Things to improve
The staff is awesome. The fairways are in good shape, and the greens are good as well. One area for improvement would be the golf carts—they could use an upgrade. Also, with rates above $90, I think range balls should be included, as that would feel more reasonable for the price. They are no longer using water jugs and now provide bottled water, but many times the coolers are empty, which can be an issue, especially on hot days
Everything better!
The course is pristine, especially the greens! Bag attendants, pro shop staff, starter, rangers ALL TOP NOTCH! We'll be back
Must Play
Heard some people talking about the newly renovated greens and decided to give it another try. Thought $125 was a little high but when we got there we could tell things were a little different. We were heading to the new range and they told us we could get something to eat down there prior to our round. Evidently, they added a snack shack they call Provisions I think. We got a couple of frozen transfusions from the young lady and they were fantastic. They built a new covered teeing area with mats for Top Tracer which I wasn't too keen on hitting from mats but the free app gave us yardages so that was cool. Not many changes to the course other than greens but they rolled true although they weren't quite as fast as they used to be. They also gave us a $10 off bay rental for Top Tracer. I'll probably bring the family out one night since they have lights. Overall this course has always been one of my favorites and we'll definitely be back. BTW... played right at 4 hours on what looked like a pretty busy day. Well worth the price of admission.
Greens are back
Was worried coming back to this course after having the greens were redone. Other courses in the area tend to reopen to soon before greens are ready. Not the case here. Greens were as fast and firm as before and what you would expect from this course. Always a challenge and why I play this course. If you were worried if course is ready like me do not hesitate to go play. I will be back again very soon. Awesome job SJGCC.
Great course…except the greens
Love the layout. Not too much water and long enough to challenge all levels. The GolfNow price of $31 made it even better. Staff is friendly too. Fairways are pretty dry as we have had no rain in the area for quite some time. Only problem with the course was the concrete-like greens. Very frustrating to judge speed and break. After the round I was informed that they just applied a second treatment to kill something; I don’t remember if it was bugs or fungus. It would have been nice for the Pro shop to give us a Heads-up. Too many 3 and 4 putts.
Nonexistent Greens
Some disclosure of the course conditions would have made things a little better but greens were unplayable. Supposed to be shutting the course down to redo all the greens but until then, they are unplayable.
Rest of the course was fine, tee boxes are in good shape and the fairways are nice.
Practice area is torn apart for new additions and they have shortened it to be irons only.
Not worth even paying half price for the course in its conditions. Need to have some notice to people booking of the poor conditions.
Awful greens
It’s a nice course but right now the condition was not enjoyable. The greens were dead grass (literally) and so it was impossible to putt. We played with a member who said they were going to redo the greens and also were renovating a number of areas of the club. What struck us the most was the staff. Not overly helpful, hard to find someone, and not an easy process to do simple things like find the driving range or putting green. Until the course is in better shape I wouldn’t recommend.
Don’t be drawn in by low pricing!
Booked through GN and was delighted with getting what I thought was a really hot deal because I absolutely love this golf course and consider it the best in the area.
On arrival everything was as normal. Checked in ok and drove to the first tee. Looked over to a barren practice area and joked with the starter suggesting there may be an issue with sprinklers. It was only then that I discovered that every green on the course had been treated and scraped.
They are about to close down for 5 months to replace all of the greens and they’ve taken the greens down to base level after treating and killing off all of the grass. Effectively leaving a surface like concrete with no grass. Probably upwards of 16 speed.
As they’re closing for 5 months, they appear to have neglected some of the rest of the course also. So no greens and patchy fairways. The tee boxes are in poor shape too.
I paid under $50 to play it, thinking I had grabbed a bargain, but I left feeling way overcharged.
They should be telling people on GN at the point of booking (which in this case was the point of payment) that the greens are basically unplayable. Instead, they’re raking in the last remnants of cash before returfing the greens.
Really disappointing. I’ve come to expect better from them.
Don't bother
Greens have been killed in preparation for green replacement. No way they should have charged me full price.
