Good golf course, but horrible pace of play

This was the first time playing Eagle Glen Golf Course. I've read all the reviews before my round, and interestingly you'd get mixed results. So this is my candid experience when I played this course myself. First, staff friendliness...I've read online that the staff is rude, yet also read that the staff is friendly. When I checked in for my tee time (which was easy...no issues), I was directed to the starter. Here's where I can see the discrepancies in reviews taking shape. This is a very busy golf course with limited golf carts. So the starter had to make sure there were enough carts to go around and get foursomes out at the right time. I noticed some people taking carts without consulting with the starter and he would have issue with them. So this is likely why some folks think that the staff is rude. But in my experience, I noticed that he was just trying to juggle three things at once so when he told me to wait and don't take a cart, I listened to him and waited patiently. I was then courteous to him and he responded to me in a kind way as well. So the bottom line is, the way you treat the starter will be reciprocated back to you. If you don't listen and take things into your own hands, he will get a bit feisty with you. But if you chill, treat him with kindness, and let him do his job, he is a very nice person who genuinely just wants people to enjoy their round and to make sure everyone has a cart. All the other staff (beverage lady, people cleaning and turning over the carts so they can be released for use again) were very friendly to me as well.

Second, course conditions....some say the course needs lots of maintenance, and some say the course is in excellent condition. In my experience, the course was in good shape...considering the circumstances. Remember, this is a public golf course that books numerous tee times. Of course the fairways and greens will get a bit beaten up by overuse in the afternoon. It's expected for a public course. It wasn't worse that other public courses in the area, but wasn't better either. Just what you'd expect from a high traffic golf course. For the novice golfer, it's a total non-issue. For the scratch golfer, however, I can see them having some concerns about the conditions of the greens. But overall, it's just fine and standard for a public golf course. If you want pristine conditions, then I'd recommend playing a semi-private golf course where green fees exceed $250.

Now the two things that are consistent among the many reviews read online (one good and one bad) is that the course layout is spectacular (good) but the pace of place is slow (bad). I will completely agree on both. Eagle Glen is built on the side of a hill and overlooks the city of Corona. It has some beautiful holes, elevated tees, unique fairways, and just overall a pretty cool experience. So the course layout is really good and must be experienced for the golf enthusiast. But ironically, what makes the course spectacular is also what kills it as well. Let me explain. Eagle Glen is a somewhat challenging golf course. With the elevated tees with huge drop offs, the wilderness which lines the fairways, etc. makes it a challenging layout for the novice golfer. I can see many golfers losing their golf balls on this course. So when golfers are spending 5-10 minutes searching for their golf balls, that causes a huge back up. Moreover, where Eagle Glen has failed is that 1) there is no course marshall to help speed up play, and 2) they let out foursomes every 8 minutes. So all of these factors combined, my 18 hole round took 6 hours. Yes, that is not mis-written...6 hours! That is completely ridiculous and quite frankly unacceptable for any round of golf. In fact, the twosome I was paired up with decided to call it a day at #14. The wait was just too long at every hole.

So, would I recommend it? I guess it really depends. Perhaps once just to experience the cool and challenging layout. And if you have nothing planned for the rest of the day and the 6 hour round doesn't bother you, then go for it. But if you cannot tolerate excessively slow pace of play, then I'd say pass. I booked my tee time using a "hot deal" on GolfNow. So I only paid $53 for this round. I guess for $53 is kind of worth it, especially for the experience. But I'd definitely not pay $140 which is the normal going rate.

2 weeks and still no refund after offering refund because of lack of course management.

I would skip Eagle Glenn until management cares about the golfer more than your money.

8 minute tee times, the people that work there will tell you what you want to hear just to get rid of you and a manager that obviously lack any integrity. No wonder his staff thinks is perfectly ok and easy to lie to customers.

It will be a while before I come back if ever. It would take the course being sold to another organization or I know the staff has completely turned over.

Great Course but the Pace

Great course and great price on a holiday however 5 groups were jammed at hole 2, we were the middle. Whether it was the starter or the course booking tee times too close together, I have heard they do every 6 minutes, the front 9 was difficult to get through due to the pace of play, but it started to loosen up on the back 9. Overall a good experience but if pace is an issue for you, perhaps try somewhere else.

Beautiful course

The scenery is beautiful and layered, and the golf carts even provide insulated coolers and ice—a lifesaver when playing in 100-degree heat at noon.

The overall course is picturesque

The most wonderful views are outstanding. But, the slowest pace of play is ridiculous. 6 plus hours is horrible. The groups ahead of my group, were waiting for a threesome three groups ahead. The amount of time they took searching the chaparral was uncalled for. Especially when they were holding up play. This is my fifth time playing this course. And it’s been the same each time.

Pace of play is horrendous. We were 22 minutes behind by hole 2. 45 minutes behind by hole 7

Worst pace of play I’ve ever experienced. And the total indifference of the teenage staff indicates to me that people have been complaint so much about pace of play that they no longer care.

I can’t fault the teenagers too much. But whoever is the manager or person in charge maybe should fire themselves.

Or may not be a golfer.

I’m torn. I have played this course many years and it’s fun. But the pace of play and the blatant lies by the staff to appease me tell me that it’s what they are taught to handle irate customers.

They told me I am getting a refund. We left after 9 holes because it would have been over 6 hours. don’t trust I will get it and hope I do. I paid in advance for 3. They said it will take a few days. If they had been honest during my face to face interaction with them I would have more faith I will get my money back. But I don’t trust anyone at this point.

Enjoyable layout BUT....

Layout was really fun. Good greens. Nice, clean clubhouse.

BUT......

*Being in the IE in the middle of summer, during a red flag warning heat wave, no water jugs on the course is unacceptable from a pure safety standpoint. Negligent really. With this said, we only saw the drink cart once the whole round in 96° heat and no on course water jugs as I previously mentioned.

*Fairways had issues with bald spots and unhitable conditions in enough spots to note.

*Bunkers had too many rocks and the sand was unhittable in the majority I saw.

No driving range yet....

*Putting green too small, but maybe it's just temporary while the driving range is being built.

*Although the greens were maintained well by the course, PEOPLE, FIX YOUR GREEN DIVOTS!!!!!!!!

*Pace of play on the First 9 was nearly unbearable. Approached the 4 hole, and we were 1 hour and 10 mins into it. On a Wednesday?! That's nuts. Presumably due to the heat wave, the 2nd 9 was better and moved along at a more reasonable pace. As we approached the 1st par 3, the group ahead of us said there was a shouting match between the 2 groups ahead of them at the tee box and it looked as though it was approaching blows, but it was fortunately diffused before it got to that. That tells you slow it was. One of the other players in my 4some said the pace of play here is among the worst and he's played 7 hour rounds at this course. WoW!

Despite all this, I think it's an overall good value for a solid course, with some nice vistas of the area, cordial staff, and good greens (fix your divots ppl!).

Golfen old lady

Pack your patience, three and a half hours to play the front 9, two to three groups waiting on every hole. Crowd thinned out on the back 9 only to two hours. The course is in good condition for August.

TOUGH COURSE

First, this course had beautiful views of the hills and scenic views of the whole area. The staff was also very nice and polite. Pace of Play was horrible though. We finally tee’d off 35 mins after our time. The course was also very tough, definitely NOT for a beginner or the weekend hangout with the guys. This is the place where the scratch golfers should go to prove themselves.

Just about every hole had significant elevation changes. The greens were nearly unreadable due to the same and some of the pin placements were just disrespectful.

Having said all of that, the greens and tee boxes were in great shape. I probably won’t go back until I can consistently break eighty.

Overbooked!

I waited 45min after my tee time to actually tee off. i believe they book every 8 min and they consequently ran out of carts. Really fun course if they can push too times to 15min between.
