El Prado Golf Courses - Butterfield Stage
About
El Prado Golf Course boasts two different 18-hole courses: Butterfield Stage and Chino Creek. Early in California's statehood, stagecoaches would make the 2,700 mile trek from St. Louis to San Francisco. The property used to be a stop on this trail, which is where the Butterfield Stage Course gets its name. It's the shorter of the two courses at 6,568 yards from the back tees. The course is flatter and more forgiving than Chino Creek, but it still has a fair amount of challenges that will test your skills. The layout has generous fairways, but watch out for the strategically placed bunkers lurking along the large, gently undulating greens. Water hazards come into play on several holes as well. The wide open nature of the course can be forgiving but at the same time it will put your round at the mercy of the prevailing winds.

Don’t hit in the bunkers
I’ve been playing here for years now and seen the improvements that they be doing. Fairways and greens are so much better than in the past. Only problem, the bunkers are hard pan.
El Prado
This is not a bad layout but course conditions and distractions from trucks and tractors all over the place made for a pretty distracting round of golf. The good ? friendly staff, solid layout and decent greens. The bad? Tractors and pick up trucks moving all over the course. All this during a late morning, early afternoon round. Cart paths were a minefield as well.
Place could be really good if they took better care of paths and grounds in general. Solid layout is challenging.
No sand bunkers
The fairway condition is fair and all the sand bunkers do not have snad in them. They are hard as rock.
Great
Great play to have a good round of golf. If you come during the weekend it will be slow pace of play. Usually 6 hours. If you play during the week the pace of play is faster 3hours.
Great course for the money
Course was in good shape. Greens were in excellent shape. Nice layout. Friendly helpful staff.
Course is nice
Course is nice, driving around the course not nice. They need to take a back hoe, dirt, gravel and level out the cart paths, it’s getting so bad they might need 4x4 carts soon. I like both courses, just enough challenge, but it would be nice to hit out of sand and not ground up dirt in the bunkers ( if you land in them). Overall a good day, pace was good.
Golf cart broke down
Our golf cart broke down on the 14th hole, made a call to the club house. It took us a while before we received a new cart. This definitely slowed us down our other group had to push our car through a long par five. The group behind us had to wait.
Great public course
The course has a great layout for most golfers. Some challenging holes, but overall very playable.
