The Savannahs Golf Course
About
Challenge the Savannahs. On the windward side of Merritt island lies one of the most unique golf courses on Florida's Space Coast. The 6,450 yard Gordon G. Lewis design winds through majestic hardwood forests, natural wetlands, and scenic lakes to reveal protected, undulated greens. Nine holes are framed by a natural savannah conservation area, bordered by hammocks with a high canopy of trees and coastal flatwoods. Water, in the form of natural wetlands and manmade lakes, comes into play on thirteen holes. The course boasts several unforgettable holes, such as the 525-yard, par 5 Signature 7th, regarded as one of the most challenging holes in Central Florida. This beautifully tight, typically southern course features six sets of tees, making play ideal for beginners and pros. The back tees are demanding even for the best of the best, while our new “Family Tees” are playable by anyone who wants to tee up. Prepare for your round by warming up on our practice facilities that include: unique aqua range, chipping and bunker area, and full-sized practice putting green. Look around during your visit, and you will notice nature's splendor on display. Our preserve features many water birds, birds of prey, reptiles, and low country mammals that make the savannahs their home. The fairways additionally offer a great view of the nearby Cape Canaveral rocket launches. Our southern plantation styled Clubhouse is a great place to start and end your day at The Savannahs. Inside you will find a golf shop, plus a bar and grill with great food and hospitality to match. Or, wander outside to the veranda overlooking the aqua range and golf course to catch the sunset.

First tee on a beautiful Florida winter's day on Merritt Island Photo submitted by sttcapt on 02/13/2017
Will be back
This was our first time playing the Savanna’s golf course. The location is excellent for those who work at NASA Kennedy Space Center of the Space Force Base, looking for a quick round. There is plenty of water so having a few extra balls in the bag is wise. There are tee box options for a wide variety of skill levels, and the layout isn’t intentionally difficult. There are a few challenging holes that will exercise your course management skills. While not particularly outstanding in any category, in total it’s a great value for those looking for a fun round to blowoff the stresses of today.
Good course
Some interesting holes with water on a number of them. As with most courses some greens need work. My wife and I played Monday and the pace was much better than Thursday. A marshall would help on those days. Will definitely play again.
Beautiful course great layout
Beautiful course. Seen gators and wildlife in during our round. Course has a couple of very challenging hole making you think before you just rare back and hit a tee shot. Greens were a little rough and very slow. Fairways and tee boxes were in very good condition. Had a very enjoyable and relaxing round.
Great course
Got paired up with another couple of guys. Great place we all had fun. Well laid out good condition no hold ups.
Bunker work
Not sure where we are going with the bunkers. I'm no expert, but a little attention would make a world of difference. They are not even playable as a hazard. I've Never worked on a coursen but would take the time if given the resources to make them usable.
Anotheroldguy
I played IRP last spring and thought that I would never play there again. I heard that it was improved and played again today. The course is so much improved compared to the spring. The greens were almost entirely filled in and quite smooth. The tee boxes have been over seeded and are good, for the most part the fairways are good and playable. Some of the cart paths need to be fixed, but overall I was pleased. The range ball, lunch deal is great. The burger is one of the best I’ve had on the space coast. There are some sketchy spots, but overall very playable.
Orwellian cart controls
Overall not too bad of a course. Kinda like your typical muni. I HATE the Orwellian cart controls that disable it when you break their rules. Some sections have a 3 MPH limit. 3 MPH! I walk faster than that. Some holes I was "too close to water". On this course that's not hard. Required to back up 20 plus yards to unlock the cart. The cart BS is what will keep me from coming back.
Course improvements, heading in the right direction
Course in decent shape even after a hurricane. They got new carts with GPS. It's sometimes too sensitive on driving in certain areas but overall a good addition. As long as they keep the right price point, I'll continue to return. If they cater to much to the Snowbirds and jack the price up to accommodate that opportunity, I will not play their reindeer games and go elsewhere. Thanks
Nice course
Booked a discounted tee time which was great value. Unfortunately there had been a lot of rain over the preceding weeks and the first 9 holes were very wet/waterlogged. Although buggies were allowed on the course, over the front 9 we had to stick to the buggy track resulting in long walks across waterlogged fairways to search for plugged balls. The back 9 was a lot better and buggies were allowed on most of the fairways. On the whole a nice course that was great value for money and I would definitely play again but only when it is dry.
