The Savannahs Golf Course

About
Challenge the Savannahs. On the windward side of Merritt island lies one of the most unique golf courses on Florida's Space Coast. The 6,450 yard Gordon G. Lewis design winds through majestic hardwood forests, natural wetlands, and scenic lakes to reveal protected, undulated greens. Nine holes are framed by a natural savannah conservation area, bordered by hammocks with a high canopy of trees and coastal flatwoods. Water, in the form of natural wetlands and manmade lakes, comes into play on thirteen holes. The course boasts several unforgettable holes, such as the 525-yard, par 5 Signature 7th, regarded as one of the most challenging holes in Central Florida. This beautifully tight, typically southern course features six sets of tees, making play ideal for beginners and pros. The back tees are demanding even for the best of the best, while our new “Family Tees” are playable by anyone who wants to tee up. Prepare for your round by warming up on our practice facilities that include: unique aqua range, chipping and bunker area, and full-sized practice putting green. Look around during your visit, and you will notice nature's splendor on display. Our preserve features many water birds, birds of prey, reptiles, and low country mammals that make the savannahs their home. The fairways additionally offer a great view of the nearby Cape Canaveral rocket launches. Our southern plantation styled Clubhouse is a great place to start and end your day at The Savannahs. Inside you will find a golf shop, plus a bar and grill with great food and hospitality to match. Or, wander outside to the veranda overlooking the aqua range and golf course to catch the sunset.

First tee on a beautiful Florida winter's day on Merritt Island Photo submitted by sttcapt on 02/13/2017
The staff is great 👍 very friendly the course is challenging and fun to play.
Not ideal - poor conditions / weird layout
Played this course as a midway point for some friends around the state of Florida.
We arrived and appears the clubhouse is under renovations and did not have many open amenities , locker room/ food / etc.
Once to the range we noticed it was not level and just weeds not real grass.
The course has changed their layout and whole order that made driving the cart very confusing.
I have nothing nice or good to say about the conditions here.
Greens were some of the worst I have played. Fairways were all flooded and mostly mud.
Just was not a good experience playing here.
Value is there at the low price. But I’d rather pay a little more and get a much better experience.
Bad greens
The greens are in rough shape but the fairways are better than what they used to be, still though the fairways are covered in weeds and the greens have the same weeds on them if they’re no just dead on one end or the other of the green.
Priorities and timing
This course has a lot of water! Almost every hole has water to one side or the other, some have both. Then there are the holes with forced carries off the tee. If you spray the ball, or are intimidated by water in front of the tee box (and none of them are long carries)...you can lose a lot of golf balls during a round.
I think this course would be fun to play during the dry season. But, in the height of summer its awfully squishy. I suppose that is why it was cartpath only. They really needed to tell that to some of the folks with paving equipment who were re-doing the cartpaths, and tore up parts of their fairways.
Also, they are spending some money on the new asphalt that could be better used on the course. The fairway on the last par 5 was abysmal, and the red tee box looked as though it had been sprayed with grass killer and what little was growing on it was weeds.
It's a tough course, especially if you aren't playing with folks who know the course (fortunately I had three folks who did).
Never saw a marshal and we were waiting the entire back nine on the group in front of us (which is pretty bad when our group was playing from three different tees, so we weren't very quick, so it was a little annoying to get a warning message on the cart GPS on the next to last hole that we were 7 minutes off pace (while waiting for the group in front of us to clear so we could tee off).
Course was in terrible condition should of been closed
Fairways were punched and dirt balls all over the fairway should of been an airation notice on web site
Course was soaked from rains standing water in areas
Not in great shape
We played the Savannah‘s today. The employees were great. They’re undergoing significant renovations, painting things like that right now. The layout isn’t bad but the condition of some of the tea boxes in fairways were pretty rough. The greens were very, very slow and not the best shape.
Fun course to play.
Further more the conditions of the course what what you expect- grass from tee to green!
Great round of golf!
Couple spots that were dead, but what a great and challenging course.
Great Course for the Money
Had an enjoyable round at Savannahs. Course has a great layout and lots of wildlife around for viewing. Staff are the best around.
Beautiful coarse, great vibe
Challenging fun layout, makes you think about going for the gusto. Brought out the best in my game in all facets. My son broke 90 for the first time at the ripe age of 12. Couple of draw backs, coarse had big puddles all over and it hadn’t rained in 16 hours before round, also had some big brown spots throughout the coarse. Overall I rate it a 9 my son says 10 lol!
not so good.
the pace of play was good until we caught up with other group in front then really slow. the snake shop no one serving and cart girl meet us on number one and didn’t see her after that. so no refreshments greens where lost on some holes. i wish i could of made a better review but i can’t
Nice Course and Great Staff
Really enjoy the layout of the course with plenty of doglegs, water carries, and wildlife.
Staff is always friendly and accommodating.
Condition poor
Course was burnt out. Fairways are in poor condition.
