Nakoma Golf Resort - Dragon Course
About
Nakoma Golf Resort (previously known as The Dragon at Gold Mountain) is a scenic wonder that will help golfers realize what's so special about Reno and the High Sierras as a golf destination. Challenging play team with unbelievable scenery, giving players a day on the links they won't soon forget.
Playing to more than 6,900 yards from the back tees, Nakoma will challenge even scratch golfers with an imposing slope rating of 139. With five tee settings, however, Nakoma Golf Resort has proven to be a golf course that will delight all levels of golfers, as its combination of hazards and risk-reward opportunities make it a challenge worth taking.
But the scenery doesn't end on the golf course at Nakoma, which features spa villas and other amenities for golf travelers. Add to that a remarkable clubhouse designed by the legendary architect Frank Lloyd Wright, and you'll easily see why Nakoma Golf Resort has its own special place in the Reno and High Sierras golf scene.

Golfer Reviews
Great course
Windy to add to the difficulty. Hit 'em straight - tight fairways and quick greens. Great fun.
Toigh for high handicapper (18)
Difficult. Long. Really hard to reach par 4's. Beautiful all in all. Neat greens but hard --- and tough pins. Wonderful clubhouse area. Frank Lloyd Wright building. Sort of a mens weekend out place as it is really out of the way.
Awesome !!
My husband and I had heard how difficult this course was, so we decided we would just have a good attitude no matter what. Well we were so pleased to find it was wonderful and not too difficult, We are 14 handicaps and we played the reds. So you can make it any degree of difficulty that you choose. Wonderful, excellent condition. Groomed beautifully, greens were awesome, not easy, but fun. We will be back there to play again. We are in our 70's, so we better not wait too long to get back. Smile !!
Spectacular Experience
We have longed to play this course for a few years now and finally found the opportunity. What a grand day we had! The course had previously been known as extremely difficult and remains to be so although it appears several avenues have been taken to alleviate some of the hazards and difficulty of play for most range of players. The beauty of this course creates a MUST PLAY course. The entire staff were very accommodating and eloquent, as was the dining prior and following golf. We are eager to return to The Dragon of Nakoma.
A real treat!
This is a magnificent course. Each shot demands your best. It is a real "ball-strikers" golf course. Not a course for recommended for beginners. Course was in PERFECT condition and pace of play was as fast or slow as I wanted. Bring your camera and an extra sleeve of balls - you'll want both!
Hidden treasure
Had never played here before....took a mini vacation at this resort...and it was fabulous. Very scenic, well maintained. We played two days in a row...and were basically the only ones out there. Booked a hot deal for $40/pp while everyone else was paying more than $100. Not clear how they can afford to maintain this beautiful course with no one playing on it..so my advice would be go play while you can! You'll be glad you Did!
Beautiful golf in the Sierras
My wife and I had a wonderful day of golf at The Dragon. Course was in exceptional condition and the weather was perfect. Staff was very friendly and we were able to go out a little early. We had a great time on this beautiful and challenging Sierra course.
1 of 5 courses
4 of us (60 somethings) spend 5-6 days in Graeagle every summer and play 5 -6 rounds of golf at various courses, To us, the Dragon is by far the most beautiful and challenging.
Plan on at least 4-10 strokes above your average.
Beautiful
While having played Nakoma's, "The Dragon", many times, it's always great to play, as each time and turn it changes like a chameleon, with beauty at every turn. That is why we play. The long 5 par's give the sloped valley's show many snow capped mountain peaks and views of sunsets that go on forever. Bring a few extra balls and your best game.
Great golf course
One on the best golf courses in the reno area . Some what hard but fair . Great shape
Great Opening Day
Course was in excellent condition considering it was buried in snow 2 months ago!
Always a tough course to play, but what a view from every hole. Feather river was running hard, but the greens were holding. Looking forward to a return visit...
Beautifull
greens were a little slow, and first time players, watch out, all my best shots were with my camera. Will go back.
Great course after some rough times
The Nakoma Dragon course in Clio, California is like something that you've never seen. The course is absoulutley spectacular. I played it the first day it was open for the 2016 golf season. (May the first). The course hit some hard times back it about '08 or '09 but the course has definetly recovered. The course had buetifuel holes and is a tough track with lots of elevation changes and plentiful amounts of hazards. The clubhouse is very nice and almost impossible to miss with the crazy design and the buetifuel exterior and interior. The staff was very helpful and told us some history about the course. Overall the course is great and reccomend if in the area.
Great pics, we shared on Twitter @golfadvisor. Thanks
