Bear Creek Golf Club - West Course
About
Conveniently located adjacent to the DFW Airport, Bear Creek Golf Club serves up two Ted Robinson-designed, 18-hole masterpieces that are known for their stunning topography and outstanding greens. And with both golf courses playing around 6,700 yards from the tips, golfers can hit long irons and fairway woods off the tee to keep it in the fairway, which is mandatory for a good round on these tight courses. Bear Creek's West Course is demanding early, and is significantly more difficult on the front side. However, the back side opens up and allows some room for error, making this the track of choice for the high handicapper. Nos. 6 and 7 stand out on the demanding front. No. 6 requires a blind tee shot and an approach over water, and no. 7 might be the most difficult on the golf course: a 380-yard par 4 that plays into the wind and also involves water. The back side has the signature hole, the scenic 180-yard 17th, which plays along a lake.

Extremely Slow Play
Bear Creek East is a tough course with a strange layout on the front 9. Lots of short par 4s with tight tee box shots. The course was dreadfully slow, taking a full 5 1/2 to complete. For $70 I expected a better value and pace of play. The one good thing were the access to cart girls!
The Bear Is Not In Hibernation
The Tag Marshal GPS system in the golf cart looked great for the scant amount of time it was up & running before it would shut itself down.
The bunkers were in below average condition (I probably should have played them as ground under repair because it cost me several strokes during the round) as were some of the tees, in particular #13 where it'd be impossible to tee a ball with multiple types of tees.
As should be the case, there are certain tee shots that cater to those who work the ball left-to-right and certain tee shots that cater to those who work the ball right-to-left.
For the beginning to average player, the sidehill/downhill/uphill lies provide a challenge throughout the course.
The approach to #5 is a downhill one fraught with water in front of the green and a steep downhill slope behind the green that ends up with the ball either in the the tee area of #6 or just as likely the woods.
#6, #7, & #17 can be a difficult tee shot for those with the left-to-right ball flight.
For some reason, the two times I've played the East course it seems easy for course traffic to bottleneck.
Bummed
Played with a friend from out of town and was told on the 15th hole that the course was closed?!?!! Apparently they overbooked or didn’t communicate because we paid for 18 and had to finish on the first three holes we started on. Also, the gps was smashed and when I asked about a different cart was told they all weren’t working so to deal with it. Not the experience I expected for the price.
TOO SLOW
It is absolutely ridiculous that it takes so long to play and that you allow UNMARSHALLED 4-somes to play so slow. WE waited on every shot. I will not play this course again on a weekend.
Nicely kept public golf course
I like the carts that have the tablets with the course layout and gps. Good greens and well kept course for a public golf course.
Think about a different course
If pace of play is an issue for you to be consistent, don't play here! We only played 14 holes and that was almost 4.5 hours, we left! At one point there on a hole there were 5 groups. For all of us, we are not PGA players, its called ready golf and for God sakes don't spend 10 minutes looking for your ball just drop and move on.
Couldn’t cancel
I just got sick night before and it wouldn’t let me cancel tee times ,my Fault
Great course but next door to airfield
Overall about a 4* for me. Greens were in great condition. But being right next to an airfield... We probably had 100 planes fly over throughout the round. Pace of play was bad, but also labor day weekend
Horrible
Horrible course to play. Bunkers full of water. No cart beverages on the course. Asked for hot dogs at the concession and received smoked, greasy sausage. Would not recommend this course to anyone.
Slow play
To many people on the course Waited on every hole to play 4.5 hrs only played 14 holes. Quit and went home. Won’t play there any time soon.
Pace of play is the worst in the Metroplex
The layout of the course is challenging but the pace of play is horrific and no one on the course enforcing the speed of play so I won’t be back. There was also a couple of guys behind us who felt compelled to hit in to us twice. There are plenty of better options in Dallas so I would steer clear of this course.
