Beautiful
It was a beautiful Spring day at Crystal Springs. The course is in good condition; the only negative was that the tee boxes must have been punched recently as there were numerous holes and you had to find a solid spot for your tee. The layout is very challenging as the course is built on hills so there are few even lies unless you are smack dab in the middle of the fairway. Greens are large and very challenging. They played very fast that day. Had a group in front of us that was very slow (out as they were only a 2some) which made the round take over 4 hours; otherwise I believe we could have played it in 3 and a half. Love the course. Need to putt well to score well. Focus on getting first putt close enough for a tap in as all of the comebackers are pretty slick. Some previous reviews I had read prior to playing stated that the maintenance was sub-par; I saw none of this reflected in the course. Staff was very nice too but they can use some extra help in the restauraut. The snack shack between the 9th green and 10th tee had a very nice lady working in it. A nice chat before teeing off on 10. Play this course if you can get the golfnow rate. Great value.
Great Location on the Peninsula
I have driven by this course hundreds of times and it always looked interesting off 280. We finally played it and it was a pretty good experience. We got behind a tournament and took almost 5 hours to play. The course is in good shape, a little hilly with a lot of slope toward the reservoir and the greens are fast.
I'm glad I played it, but it's a little out of our area and probably will not go out of my way to go back.
If you want a 6+ hour round on Sunday, this is your place
If someone re-did this course it would be great. But the conditions were terrible. The tee boxes weren't even flat. I'm never going here again.
Great, fun and beautiful course
Great course with challenging hills and target golf. The views are awesome and the course is well-maintained. If you are long off the tee you will do well.
Greens and fairways needs more care and attention
Greens and Fairways needs more care and attention. Too many divots at tee box.
After playing crystal many times i stopped due to condition of greens.
Well they have fixed the greens and is now back on my playlist.
Nice job!! Thank you for bringing this great track back to life!
Great Track, Tough Test. A must play.
Outstanding layout in a beautiful setting. A tough but fair challenge. A must play and a great value.
weekend pace of play is horrible!
This course should really be more aware of there pace of play. Five hour rounds and more are very common here. I know they could speed up play but they never do. Cmon guys get the marshalls out there and speed this place up.
poor pace of play and information
I called ahead to see if I could try to squeeze in a round and was told that the course was "wide open" after 2:00,so I made a tee time for 2:00 on Golf Now
when we got there there were 4 groups standing around on the first tee. They neglected to tell us that they were backed up and running way behind.
We were only able to complete 11 holes before it got too dark which wasn't worth the money.
This course was in reasonable shape for winter but is really over priced, generally, and especially when you only get to play 11 holes.
The staff took basicaly shrugged their shoulders, instead of taking responsibility for not accurately reporting the situation at the time I called
What a Shame!
I have a played Crystal several times now and I always leave saying never again! This time a think I really mean it. It really is a shame because this course could be great! Unfortunately they just do a poor job of maintaining it. I would say one of the most poorly maintained courses I have ever played.
Scenic
This course has really scenic views down to the resouvour off 280. It has much more elevation change between holes than many other courses I've play.
Fun place to play with a great view.
Very enjoyable course to play, have played there before and would definitely go back. They were either sanding or fertilizing the greens and that is why course condition was not rated higher.
Crystal Springs
My last round at Crystal Springs was very pleasant indeed. I recommend playing a morning round as to enjoy the sunrise over the reservoir as well as the deer.
The course itself is never flat and offers many uneven lies and twisting fairways. I find this course challenging due to the conditions of the greens as well as the course layout. The greens are slick, break quite a bit towards the reservoir and have sharp edges around the cup. Make sure to practice putting before going out on this one.
The GPS carts are a nice perk, however this course is very walkable. A long, hilly walk but great exercise!
I give 4 stars because play can be slow & the conditions are not pristine. Not quite a 5 star course for the bay area.
I recommend this course to those who have firm control of their game or those looking for a hilly challenge!
Very good shape after and during heavy rains
Fantastic maintenance and excellent drainage. Course is very very difficult in regards to being a hilly course when almost all lies being uneven until you reach the green complexes. very well designed so allows many ways to play. Move up a set of tees for first time players as this is very challenging at any of the tees. Single digit handicaps on the back tees only.
Beautiful day on a soggy course
The course was soggy, but expected after a day of rain. Currently there's lots of construction going on, so some of the holes are quite noisy. Play was quite good, but there were some soggy/muddy areas. Even though the pro shops said golf carts must stay on the cart path, some ignored that making some very deep ruts. Overall using Hot Deals meant this game was very much worth the money. Will definitely come back. Oh and don't miss the deer lounging around on the sunny holes.
Great setting with the trees and deer sightings on the course.
Overall rating could;ve been excellent but came in as good due to winter weather affecting some of the fairways as they were on the thin side.
Great course - slow play.
A delightful course. Lay out was great, fun tricky holes, scenery was marvelous, conditions (despite being wet) were above avg. but it was the pace of play that killed me. You can't get into a grove when you're literally waiting on every shot. I understand they're trying to squeeze as many people in as possible - TIMES ARE TOUGH! - but the lack keeping people on a 4 1/2 hour pace will influence my decision on coming back.
Pristine views, watch out for wet conditions
Overall this course you will enjoy especially if you're partial to beautiful views. Notably in several places the fairways can be soggy in the rainy season however. Some narrow approaches as in the 9th fairway, and challenging small greens in places. The entire front 9 has challenging sloping, so need to stay in the fairway.
Convenient Location But Seems Far From Everything
It's one of my favorite courses in the bay area. Challenging and not a house in sight! Deer, wild turkey, and an occasional coyote are part of your round. Love the view from hole #6!
Good course for practicing hill side lies.
Crystal Springs is a nice course with a good design but it could use some sprucing up, sand in the traps and some fairway attention. This could be a real gem if better cared for.
