Affordable, decent round of golf
I enjoyed my past two rounds at Crystal Springs. The course definitely has its challenges, primarily in uneven lies (even on some of the teeboxes, which really should be addressed by course maintenance), narrow fairways (holes 2, 5, 9 and 15), tricky pin placement (par 3 8th, tucked right behind the right greenside bunker), and significant elevation changes on some holes. Glad to have played with some "locals" the last two times out - very helpful in where to play shots. Will likely return for another round here in the future.
Must be under new management, not the best experience.
I have played Crystal Springs a number of times over the years and my latest experience will be my last for a while. GPS has been removed from the carts, both carts for our foursome failed during the round. The greens were pretty beat up, granted it is the end of summer and on a day with the temps in the 90's I saw the beverage service once.
Beautiful course, scenic
Excellent course. Very scenic with mountains, a water reserve, and fog/mist around. Hole #6 is especially beautiful. Highly recommend trying it out. Course is well maintained and challenging. Greens are tough and fairways slant so that you need to be careful where you place your ball, otherwise it will roll right into the rough. Many 400+ yard holes, so this is a good 5 hour course with traffic.
"While were young"
Challenging course with up and down lies and some narrow fairways. When we played, the bunkers were very hard, it's like hitting off dirt! Great course if you have time to waste. 5+ hrs round at normal weekend rate is just not worthwhile.
Green needs maintenance
The course itself is very nice with some challenging holes. However, almost every green has bumps/divots everywhere.
great course, fantastic nature views. lots of deer!
great course, fantastic nature views. lots of deer! glad i took the cart, very hilly. can lose balls if not placed in fairway.
Bargain at GolfNow rates
Although Crystal is not my favorite local course, I couldn't pass up the under $40 rate with cart on GolfNow. As usual the course played a touch slow for my liking, just around 5 hours, but the place is in great shape. There were none of the hidden wet areas that I usually find on this course and overall the conditions were great along with the weather. It was a fine day to shoot a 91 for this 20 handicapped hacker.
Tough layout but fair,
good course. However bring your own food if needed. Snack shack on the 10th hole is NEVER open, cart girl doesn't have food and when she does, sandwiches are poor and expensive. After the round at 4:30, restaurant kitchen is closed!!! Course is fun to play but amenities are lacking
great vistas overlooking water
golf now provided an excellent opportunity to play a challenging golf course for a reasonable price.

worst experience
went with 3 friends on saturday. took us an hour to play 3 holes. 3 and half hours to finish 9. we called the pro shop, talked to a marshall twice, and pace never picked up.
marshall was a bit dismissive saying "the two groups in front of you are in position"... well, that might have been true relative to each other and us, but not in terms of pace of play. We asked "what if it takes us 6+ hours". His response was "well then that's how it is". He then said we could take a rain-check. This was at the turn. We decided to press on. 3 more holes of wait/ hit/wait/hit/wait, we decided to call it.
went to the clubhouse to talk and they couldn't offer any reason why it was slow. offered us money off our next round (though I doubt ill go back) and offered a tip: book an earlier tee time (genius). All in all, I paid $80+, tee'd off at 1:20, and finished at 5:05....only completing 12 holes and given no answers.
Beautiful setting, nice enough course, adequate value
I've played Crystal for years now and I think it's an OK course in a gorgeous setting. One regularly sees deer milling through the underbrush. The course itself is tight and there are a lot of uneven lies, but not it's not unfair. For a public course, it's in average shape. Fairways are a bit bare in places, but not awful. The greens tend to be a bit inconsistent in my experience i.e. some are faster than others. They are relatively true, though, which is good. Again, for a public course, they are not bad.
I just played on a Saturday and the pace of play was ok, but not great. We had to call the marshall to get the group in front of us to stop imagining they were on the PGA tour (e.g. multiple practice swings only to duck hook it nearly out of bounds, lolling pace walking off the green, etc.). The marshall came quickly and things began to move a little better.
My only real complaint is that they keep the course too wet in many places. Parts of it are mushy to the step, including greens early in the morning. This is definitely the result of watering and not dew or mist. I am not a greenskeeper, but I've played a lot of golf in many different environs and I can't understand why they do this on a course that's in a generally moist climate. I'm sure they have a rationale, but I can't understand it.
One note: be sure to mention you are a NCGA member to get a discount. They won't ask, but will happily give you $10 off if you do.
Overall, this is a solid course for what it is and certainly one I keep as a standby is something better isn't available.
Nice setting, near my house but I wouldn't drive very far to play here
CS is a short course in nice setting. Usually quite windy. Good value around $35 but not worth more than $60.
Over book the tee times. 6hrs. For a Rond golf not good.
My wife and I are members of NCGA and it states we get a discount by being members and when I ask they said no its after 3:00pm when I play before in the morning they gave it to me $5.00 off and what they don't know what there doing at the golf course should work with them all.
great golf course
course is very challenging to play, greens are well maintain but very fast . You need to be accurate because most fairway's are narrows. You need to be familiar with the course in order to have a fair and descent score. Over all it is very challenging and its fun to play.
Scenic Course with super fast greens because of the typical breaks toward the reservoir!!!
You will have a great round if you putt well, and position the drives in the correct spot.
The course has wonderfull views.
The course was maintained good enough. Value for the money is my biggest issue.
This course is a great value pending the tee time.
I enjoyed playing from the blues as the course has it's challenges and very well if not excellent maintained. Highly recommended and played 18 holes in 4 1/2 hours for a Friday 10:07am tee off. Enjoy the ride.
Nice views
Good course with some tough side hill, downhill, and uphill shots. Will play it again. Had an issue with the golf cart needing to be recharged. Enjoyed the course.
Course is well maintained and challenging
Course offers nice distances with varying elevation levels that present some challenging lies. Bunkers leading up to greens also offer some difficult approach shots. Nice views of the mountains and reservoir, and your bound to cross paths with some deer on the course. Well worth the round.
