Prestine Conditions, Lovely Views, Difficult Course
Fairways were in perfect condition but really skinny. Be careful if you’re showing up with a slice or hook. Greens were well maintained but really difficult to manage. Overall the backdrop is the best part of the course! It gets cold and windy at night but we got lucky and had amazing weather our entire twilight round.
Beautiful course but slow pace
Beautiful course
Nice layout
Green condition excellent
Overall not too difficult
But the pace is slow, zzz
$79 with a cart, yeah I’ll come back again
Forgot how hilly this course was…
Crystal Springs is in a beautiful spot, which was oddly much hotter than the surrounding areas. We played on a Sunday afternoon, so enjoyed a slow round of 5 hours. The couple things that stood out were, a. This is a very hilly course, so bring your A game and lots of balls (everything falls towards the reservoir to the West), b. Great food and drink options and c. Friendly and accommodating staff. For $109 w/cart I would have expected a bit more, but I understand it’s the Bay Area. Enjoy.
Nice layout but very slow play and unfriendly staff
Been here multiple times, course lay out is scenic, especially front nine. Back nine gets repetitive and plays right along the road. Maintenance is decent. Unfortunately pace of play is slow (5:20h round). Also staff is incredibly unfriendly and rude, they seem to have high staff turnover and their folks genuinely don’t care. Facilities are old and urgently need renovation. There’s better options in the Bay Area.
In great shape!
Quite challenging for an average golfer but is a great course when it is not too wet.
Reliable great course
Crystal Springs is a good course. Well maintained, challenging and fun.
The pace can be slow at times specially weekends, but this particular round was twilight and the pace was great.
It is walkable and the scenery is second to none.
I have played it several times and it is always good.
We teed off at 3:42 pm and it took three hours to play nine holes. Totally unacceptable. No marshal to push groups. I won’t play here again. At the start of the round we were hoping to finish 18 but quit after 9 holes.
Pace of play excruciating
Pace of play is a 5 hour round every time. People that play here average 123 scores I’d guess (while telling themselves they shot 103)
Horrible Pace of Play
The course conditions were great and challenging. But I couldn't get over the pace of play. 4 hours to get to the turn, ~15 minutes in between shots, and it wasn't one group that was holding up play. Every hole had 2-3 groups waiting to hit. Walked off on 13 because we were already 5.5 hours in and had a dinner reservation to get to.
No Longer An Option
Should have known better as I've played the course for years, but the latest experience proved this is not a course I will choose to play moving forward. The pace of play is by far the slowest of any course I play in the Bay Area. Grill at the turn closed (again). Course conditions were rough and in some places unplayable.
Expensive mud to play on
The course really didn’t recover from rain earlier in the week. Despite being sunny that day and the day before, the ground didn’t drain well and the course was muddy. Likely to lose your ball if you missed the fairway, and sometimes even if you did find the fairway due to either being plugged in the mud, or the camouflage of daisies.
Pace of play was slow. It took almost 5.5 hours for 18. Pretty much waiting at the tee every hole, and you had to watch yourself during second shots for incoming tee shots from behind due to marshals pushing play.
