Woodbridge Golf Club
About
Woodbridge’s layout doglegs through some interesting terrain, with heavy woodlands, natural wetlands, streams, and meadows making the course scenic and fun. There are 15 doglegs in all, which makes for a tough, long 7,088 yards if you’re playing from the tips.
Woodbridge’s best feature is perfectly conditioned greens that vary in size and force you to think because of the heavy undulations.
One of the most challenging holes on the front nine is No. 5, a 429-yard par 4 that plays uphill through a tight chute of trees. The spectacular green is guarded by a waterfall on the left, bunkers to the right and rear, and a pond in the front.
On the back, No. 16 is one of the nastiest, playing over water that wraps around the green. Overhanging trees get in the way off the tee, forcing you to work the ball if the pin is tucked right or left. Rather than getting fancy, the best play here is to get it on the green and work for the two-putt par.
Getting there : From Dallas, take Hwy. 75 (Central Expressway) north to Hwy. 190 (George Bush Turnpike). Drive east to Hwy. 78, then north for 4 miles. The entrance to the subdivision is on the right, and there are signs to the course inside.

Woodbridge Golf Course
Great course. Lots of shade. Challenging. Had a great time.
Weed whacker
Everything was fantastic, except for the grounds keeper that was in front of us the entire time weed eating. It was absolutely uncalled for. He could care less that he was onky 150 years in front of us on every shot. Never seen that before.
Always a tough course
We played on labor day.... 5 hours plus. I am always amazed that 18 holes of golf can take so dang long. Course was in decent shape - good greens, a little over-watered fairways and green surrounds, and the rough was challenging. The bunkers are all being renovated and more than 50% were unplayable. The heat, slow pace and thick rough made this a challenging day. PLayed with my old friend Rick and that made it worthwhile. This course is not in my normal rotation, but the price and available tee time were good for us today.
New management is making some nice improvements
When all the updates are done it’s gonna be real nice I believe
Awesome
Had a great round, the course was in really good shape even after the rain storm we had that week. One cool feature was that the carts had built in Bluetooth.
But the course layout was amazing, the greens displayed a true roll in my opinion. The staff was friendly and gave advice when asked
9 out of 10
Great place but slow today
Love the course. Really slow day. Don’t think it’s a consistent issue but several twosomes following slow foursomes
A Local Jem Now Almost Completely Ruined
This course use to be my favorite public course in the area. Even at a relatively lower cost, it was a better course than most of the competition in the area. And then the new owners took over in mid-2021 and things have gone downhill very quickly. It’s hard to know where to start with everything that they’ve messed up, but here’s a list of what comes to mind:
-Removed GPS from the carts – This was one of the few public courses with GPS, but now it’s just like all the rest;
-Cut down numerous trees that were part of the beauty and strategy for the hole: Holes 5, 8 and 17 to name a few;
-Removed a number of fairway bunkers on several holes that were part of the hole strategy—now there are just giant glassy depressions leftover instead of leveling the land;
-Pace of play is RIDICULOUSLY slow! I mean like Pecan Hollow 5 ½ hour per round slow. And that’s saying something;
-Raised the rates—Despite the removing of GPS and the removing of so many bunkers, which cost a lot to maintain, they actually RAISED the rates. They didn’t do it as bad as Plantation, Twin Creeks and Buffalo Creek as far as their new ridiculously high rates, but taking measures that cut upkeep costs should result in decreasing rates, not increasing them.
-And then the staff argued with me when I had several of the old range tokens leftover that I previously bought and wanted to exchange since they removed the token machine. They take my money but won't honor the tokens they sold me???
So the obvious guess is that the course was altered so horribly in order to save upkeep costs, and then numerous more tee times were added, both of which are decisions made to increase revenues. It’s a business and that makes sense, except that the way they did it here has seriously damaged the overall experience. My golfing group plays once per week, and Woodbridge was our place at least once or twice a month, but now I’m not sure if I’ll even play it once or twice a year now, and then only if I have no other choice. Hopefully the fools that have screwed up Woodbridge will read enough of these reviews and try to correct some of their horrible errors.
PS: Since a lot of people like me buy multiple range tokens at one time so that we don't have to go to the pro shop every time we go to the range, you should honor those tokens even once you removed the token machine. Firewheel did this and you should too.
Course changes made play worse
I have been playing this course for years, always enjoyed playing there until now. The majority of the sand traps have been removed. The removal of trees, specifically 8 and 17, takes the challenges out of the holes. These are the exact same changes Los Rios did years ago before it eventually closed for good. What a shame to see a great course become a joke.
