About
Located just minutes from LAX, Rio Hondo Golf Club is conveniently accessible from the South Bay and Orange County. Golf Digest has ranked the course as one of southern California's "Places to Play." The 6,370-yard layout is narrow and challenging, placing a premium on accuracy off the tee. Many locals consider it to be the toughest golf course in the area. The course features tight, tree-lined fairways and subtly contoured greens that are faster than they look. It's not a particularly long layout but the par 3s provide some good length. Golfers will face a variety of challenges throughout, but there is also plenty of scenic respite. Sparkling lakes and cascading waterfalls are scattered across the landscape, coming into play on a few holes as well. In addition to the golf course, there is also a lighted, 30-station driving range at Rio Hondo G.C.

Great course! One of my favorite and one of the best on the area!!!
Pace little slow so we’re the greens... but what a gorgeous track in the middle of Downey of all places.
We are all.blessed to be playing golf under the circumstances
Please wear your mask and fairways and greens.
Course in good shape, excellent pace
Course in pretty good shape. Very green, partly due to fairways being painted green... but in good shape. This course is usually in very good condition and this round was no different. No complaints from me.

Excruciatingly slow
Really liked the course, staff was friendly but the pace of play is a joke. Course was not crowded but the type of player here is why I usually avoid playing in this area. Bad players coaching other bad players. Rude players taking 5 minutes to line up putts, Hitting multiple bad shots off the tee. Course really needs a Marshall and players with manners.

Too many people and wait every hole. The green condition is not good

Hot deal
Over booked. Tee time was for 11:30 but did not get out until 12:45. No carts available.
Explanation given for the backup was that they were behind due to the fog in the morning however there was no fog. Just overbooked which is unfortunate thought by reserving ahead I would get out on time. Ended up using the Marshall’s cart that was even cleaned.
We apologize for the pace of play issue you experienced. We work hard to keep a great pace when having our golfers on the course. Way to slow
I'm 2 hrs 20 minutes into my round and just finished the 6th hole. Painstakingly slow.

Course was a let down
The greens were in fair shape at best. Some were horrible. For the life of me, I don't understand why the don't overseed the fairways. They were like hardpan for the most part. There was a lot of water in many spots and we haven't had rain???
They should have staff fill in divots daily. For a course that is sold out daily, they can't say they don't have the money to keep it top shape. I heard the city owes them a bunch of money, I don't know why they don't invest in the course because for what you pay, it should be pristine but it isn't. They need new carts. I had my first cart die by 9th hole, got another one and it almost didn't make it.

Great value
Many course with poor conditions... this is typically $10 more but has good fairway green and greens! Not a mountain course so safe for some degree tee box issues. But also benefits from good droves and play. One of my favorite courses for under $50.
Pace of play serious issue
Stacking par 3s causing a miserable pace of play. Price is right but had to bail after a 3+ hour front 9.
