Located just minutes from LAX, Rio Hondo Golf Club is conveniently accessible from the South Bay and Orange County. Golf Digest has ranked the course as one of southern California's "Places to Play." The 6,370-yard layout is narrow and challenging, placing a premium on accuracy off the tee. Many locals consider it to be the toughest golf course in the area. The course features tight, tree-lined fairways and subtly contoured greens that are faster than they look. It's not a particularly long layout but the par 3s provide some good length. Golfers will face a variety of challenges throughout, but there is also plenty of scenic respite. Sparkling lakes and cascading waterfalls are scattered across the landscape, coming into play on a few holes as well. In addition to the golf course, there is also a lighted, 30-station driving range at Rio Hondo G.C.

Good experience
First time playing at Rio Hondo. Nice course with some tricky greens. Course was maintained well. For the price you would think they would enforce a dress code though..many golfers had tank tops on...pace of play was a little slow but to be expected on the holiday weekend. Overall it's a good Course. I would recommend.
Solid but nothing special
First of all, I would be happy to go back and play this course again. My only gripe is that it is priced $15-20 more than what I’d expect based on upkeep and conditions. The front nine is narrow and tree dense but playable. The back nine has a little water but is wide open. Can certainly score on the back. For conditions, price, and everything in between, I’d rate this a 7/10 for a near city course.

Pace was slow, no enforcement, no apology
Had a T time of 12:32 pm. Didn’t T off until 1 pm. It took 4 hours to finish 9 holes. No enforcement whatsoever on the course as you would see on any other course. Left after 9 holes.
Pace of play was the worst yet
Never coming back to rio again the course lay out was cool an all but the pace of play is ridiculous it took us 5hrs and 30min to play a full round……
PACE OF PLAY SUCKED
No marshall on the course! TOOK 5 1/2 hours to play!
Tough course; slow pace
First 9 holes took 3 hours. The group ahead of us quit and went back to the clubhouse after the 10th hole. It was a 12:10 tee time on a Friday. Seems like the rest of the reviews complain about the pace of play and it’s definitely warranted. The back 9 was faster and we finished the round in about 5 hrs and 15 minutes.
The course itself has narrow fairways with water features on several holes, and the conditions were firm and dry. The greens were just ok as well. I don’t plan on playing it again unless there’s a really good deal
