Rio Vista Golf Club
About
The Golf Club at Rio Vista is situated at the heart of northern California. With a scenic spot near the Sacramento River Delta, the course is even named after its scenic river view. The river delta meets rolling hills on this tough providing a unique setting equipped with distinctive water features. The skillfully crafted water holes are the trademarks of the design. The design mimics the natural lines carved by the river delta. The fairways are wide open but lengthy and generous greens can also be quite challenging as well. Rio Vista is a golf course that has appeal for players of all skill levels from novices to pros, whether it's the scenery or the diverse layout. Be careful on windy days though, the open course can be especially brutal.

Great Bang For Your Buck!
Absolutely had a blast here, Chris and the other gentleman there (who’s name I didn’t catch) were extremely helpful when we told them it was our first time there and my girlfriends first round ever. Rental clubs for her were newly released clubs, not some super old/outdated set like most courses so she enjoyed that. The course is beautiful and very fun to play. Pace of play in my opinion was great, 4.5hrs with a brand new player isn’t bad at all. My only “complaint” was the cart had very limited snack selections and the restaurant doesn’t open til 11:30 so food wasn’t really available. Hopefully that changes in the future! Other than that it was a beautiful day on the course, will most definitely be back again!
Jewel in the Delta
Let me set the context. I played on Memorial Day. Tee time 1:40 p.m. Played solo.
I had played this course quite a few years ago, and was interested in seeing how well (or not well) it holds up. The good news is that the greens were excellent, the tee boxes very good, the fairways were reachable and mowed. There were a few spots adjacent to the fairways where the rough was uh, well, rough. Solution- don't hit your ball there! Had a great time. Was greeted outside the pro shop, welcomed inside by a very pleasant gentleman; got registered to play. Had a very warm greeting when I got an Arnold Palmer at the turn, and the people sitting out on the patio eating and drinking were very friendly. It is definitely a come-backer course for me, despite the long drive (for me). There are some spots where the two-legged waterfowl have left their tootsie roll minis, but all you have to do is look where you're walking. Weather was 85 degrees, with a cool breeze of not more than 7 mph. All in all, a very pleasurable experience.
It was one of my favorite course from the past
Besides the greens, the course was in terrible condition. I honestly felt like anything other than the fairways and greens should have been ground under repair. I hate to say it, but it wasn’t worth it
Short and challenging
Sloping greens uphill second shots & the wind really makes you play the course intelligently. There are triple and quadruple bogeys waiting for you if you get cute.
Much Much Better
Played this course about a year or so ago and wasn't impressed at all. Thought I'd give it a try again based on recent reviews. To my surprise the course is moving in the right direction. So much better than the time I played a year ago. Greens and tee boxes were in excellent shape. Fairways have greatly improved in the past year and grounds crew were working on them. Much credit to the grounds crew and management for getting this course trending in the right direction. The course layout is great, looking forward to a final state which should be outstanding. Keep on doing what their doing.
Course was extremely over watered. Flooding/standing water in bunkers, on fairways, and around fridge. So many issues in fairways, see photos below. Course was in need of a major mow, not conditions you want or expect to play in on a Sunday in May in CA. No driving range no beverage/food service on course all day.
Much nicer than expected.
Greens were in very good condition. Fun course to play.
Rio Vista GC Coming Back!
Teeoff deal for 1:48pm tee time. Got to course early; starter allowed me to play around 12noon. Thanks! Tee boxes in good condition. Fairways in excellent shape except for a few areas. Rough very penalizing; hard to find balls. Greens recovering nicely from aeration; very slow. Played the course about a year ago; didn’t want to come back. But the maintenance staff turned it around. What a pleasure to play it now!
Potential is There
No mention of greens being punched on any reservation platforms unacceptable...
While the pace of play was excellent...the overall course lacked attention to detail with rough extremely penal which made moderately off fairway shots extremely difficult to find your ball...
Lastly, the restaurant sitting area is under renovation creating a horrendous amount of noise for the team working in the proshop...you literally had to yell at the attendee to confirm and pay for you're round...it would better suited for pro shop to relocate check in while construction is going on....
Rio Vista is back
The course is coming back. Impressed with the new management making the course pretty again.
Greens rolling pure, fairways still need work but looking a lot better
A good experience
It was nice to see the course so green and in good shape. Hopefully, in a couple months it will still be a good experience. Hopefully, the sprinkler issues have been resolved. Time will tell.
