Absolute garbage course
The best thing on this golf course are the greens. In fact the greens are very nicely maintained. Better than even some of the nicer courses in Los Angeles County. However, the greens are in sharp contrast with the rest of the golf course. The fairways are so bumpy on every. single. hole. that you're much better off staying on the cart path (if there is one) as much as possible. And the sad fact it that it has been this way for many many years and never gotten better. And these bumps are literally every where and are hard and can potentially do real damage to your golf clubs and/or bag. Even the golf carts are on the verge of breaking down quite possibly due to all the bumps. I don't know why I even gave this golf course a 2nd chance.
These types of conditions do not happen over night. It was many many years of neglect and willful negligence. And at this point, I seriously doubt, it could ever be a decent course because the entire course would have to be dug up and re-done front to back, top to bottom.
I am in the fairway but I feel like I am hitting out of the rough
Even when I was in the fairway, it was like being in the rough because of all the dirt patches, brown spots on the course, and lots of gopher holes. Greens were in decent shape. Don't expect any golf etiquette as there are no marshalls to enforce speed of play. Or golf carts that roll right up to the green and don't use cart paths. It's too bad because the course is long and has potential to be better.
golf cart failure
slow playing on a Sunday. Course in decent shape - greens in excellent condition
golf cart ran out of juice on the 17th hole. that sucked, took more than 20 minutes for them to bring a replacement card - that sucked too.
Challenging old school
William Bell design 1955. Same guy did Torrey Pines San Diego south golf course. Nice layout. Greens are good, fairways ok with Kikuyu grass everywhere making it challenging, good for practice. Rough was brutal. 6” deep in most areas, making it challenging and again great for practice staying in the fairways. Some long holes not for short hitters.
Golfing Whittier Narrows.
Overall, not bad for a public course.
The greens are in good shape. The fairways are ok. If you have a ball in the rough, very difficult to find due to all the holes and unevenness. Good value for the price!
You get what you pay for
Good for a quick weekday practice round or walking excercise since it's close by. Pros: Great green conditions and cheap. Cons: Average fairways and constant delays. You get exactly what you pay for.
