Soboba Springs Golf Course was founded in 2004 when the Luiseno Indians purchased the property. It had long been a dream of the tribal leaders to own this golf course, which borders their reservation. The tribe's leaders hired Cary Bickler, a disciple of the course's original designer, Desmond Muirhead, to update the layout and pave the way for it to once again be one of southern California's premier golfing destinations. The renovation included the addition of 25 new bunkers, a lengthening of the back tees and shortening of the forward tees by almost 1,000 yards to make it more approachable for the less experienced player. The Augusta-white sand that fills Soboba Springs' bunkers provides a stunning contrast to the lush greens. Water also comes into play throughout the golf course in the form of meandering streams and cascading waterfalls.

Decent Place for a Round of Golf

I enjoyed my round this past Sunday. The Pace of play was reasonable for a Public Course on a Sunday afternoon. A member of the group behind us didn't think so but we were right behind the group in front of us just as they were. The conditions of the fairways and greens were nice. The course appears to be well maintained. I will play here again I just wish I could get a round for less than $45.

Scenery is beautiful and the course is well laid out.

What a beautiful course! The only thing that stops me from giving it a 5 star rating is the birds! On almost every fairway the birds have pecked the grass to the ground! Nothing to stop your ball from rolling, and rolling, and rolling! Not to mention the "droppings" left behind. I'm not sure I will rush back for that reason alone. On the good side, every hole is absolutely beautiful! The scenery is second to none!

Nice track but bring your sand game

THE EXPERIENCE
We had a frost delay of about an hour. Lots of people stacking up but when the sun came high enough to get over the 500 foot hill next to the club the temperature went from 38 to 58 in about 30 minutes and up from there. We all eventually got out and we never had to wait at one tee. People who play there don't screw around. They are there to play the game not a hand of Bridge in between holes.
Out in the middle of nowhere (Maybe 10 miles from the 60) among some dairy and fertile growing farms tucked up against the foot hills of leading up to Mt. San Jacinto lye's Soboba Springs. A beautiful place tranquil and quiet a perfect setting for golf.

THE COURSE
Bring your sand game. if you're an average player you will find a lot of it. The back 9 is especially loaded. Over the front 9 I didn't see why they brought a Nike tour event to Soboba but when I hit #10 it became obvious. Even the best players are going to have a time of it if their ball strays. Even the fairways had many of them and some were easily 20 yards long or more. Its the type of sand that is easy to get out of so don't worry too much

As the holes go by they tighten up and the real trouble begins. Its isn't target golf and the fairways are generous, but missing one puts you behind lumber a place you don't want to be.

FAIRWAYS

The fairways are wide with some rolling mounds and in really nice condition. No bare spots, cut nice and tight just overall well maintained.

GREENS

The greens are in beautiful condition. Among the top 2 or 3 I have played to date. FAST! REAL FAST! smooth too but guess what? If you can't read slope and grain you are in for a world of hurt. There is slope everywhere. No flat stuff here just pure agony of you're not careful. This was the second thing that made it worthy of the pros. It was fun to rollem.

TEES

Like the fairways condition wise but of course flat. Can't get any better than that. I also liked the Palm Tree markers. I have never seen that in Southern California (maybe I haven't played enough places here) as a departure from the typical rocks. It adds some class!

PRACTICE FACILITY

Driving range was closed. In fact the course was delayed opening due to frost so we never got to the range. They have 3 or 4 really small practice putting greens which was ok but I do prefer the bigger greens that can accommodate more people

CLUBHOUSE

This is why its called "The Country Club" The clubhouse is beautiful. The staff is awesome, food is an incredible value as compared to just about everywhere, Hey you really do get fresh fruit not the fermented stuff and yes there really is sausage in your omelet not a piece or two . I can't remember the last time I had breakfast anywhere and left full for well under $10. Cudos to the staff and the Clubs desire to give you a deal because Soboba is the best overall deal you will find.

The rules are the rules

We showed up about an hours before our tee time at 9:30 the dirt driving range was closed. They opened it later. We finally got to the 1st tee at 10:30. When we checked int there I was told I could not play because I was wearing black jeans because the rules are the rules. Except if you know them then the rules aren't the rules and you can play is faded jeans like the golfers behind us. Someone in my group had a pair of running pants, those I could wear. The back half of the course was covered in bird droppings and not one of the ball washers had any water. The green fee is about 10 buck more than the other courses in this area and this course is in no better shape.

Good course even frozen

We went to Soboba in January of 2013 during one bad cold spell and the course was frozen. The frost delay lasted until 11AM and even then for the first hour parts of the course were frozen solid. Some of the fairways were not in great condition with little grass and lots of bird droppings giving very tight lies. Once the course was thawed the true greatest on the course showed. The greens played true and a little fast. It is a great course but maybe pick a time when it ins't so cold. I also found out that the price i paid on GN was the same as the regular pro-shop price plus a "booking fee".

great course for the green fees paid

greens were very fast for the average golfer(myself).it seemed a struggle to keep the ball on the green on many of the holes. overall it was a fair course. bunker sand was really good i thought for getting out.could use better signs for getting to the next tee box.

Open but hidden water hazards.

It's true, you meet the nicest people on a golf course! Only issue was duffers playing from the black tees with no marshall to get them moving= five hour round.

The course and accommodations made for a very enjoyable outing

It could have used a few tweaks, but overall a very nice course. Of the dealings with staff, al-in-all they seemd to be great people. We booked a tee time for mid-morning, got out at Exactly the set time and for the eintire day we all had a very fun time. Would (and will) do it again in a heartbeat.

A fun and challenging course

I always enjoy playing at this golf course when it is well maintained. The course condition was very good. The only criticism I have is that the drink cart did not carry Gatorade (the snack bar did have Gatorade in stock). Other than that, it was a very enjoyable round of golf and I already made reservations for next week.

Great lay out, greens are in super shape..

I play golf at least once a week and overall this course is the best for the value. It is in super shape and you can tell they pride themselves in keeping it in good shape. Even though it can be busy it doesn't back up bad at all and they have marshall's that will keep it moving. The greens and sand traps are in super shape. Even though i don't like to be in sand traps these are actually fun because it is real sand!!! The fairways are in excellent shape and a pleasure to hit from. The rough is not bad and it isn't to hard to find those errand shots. Lots of trees on the course yet they don"t punish a good shot. The staff is awesome especially Frank the starter.

Fun round of golf

Considering the cold weather the day we played, it was a great round of golf. I went with a friend and my eleven year old son which I thought might have a tough time keeping up with us. But the golf course was much easier than expected and he kept up with us and actually played one of his best round.
The course was in great condition and the greens rolled perfect. I highly recommend Soboba and will be back!

worth the trip!

We played in December and the fairways and greens were great. Make sure to pack a GPS they no longer have them. Also, check the scorecard, the black tees are blue tees on other courses. We had to switch three holes into the round.
Giliman Springs Road has a number of photo radar detector north of the SR79 so obey the speed limit or take the 79.
This course would command twice the price in LA, well worth the trip. We'll be back soon.
