Oak Valley back 9 Photo submitted by VICRAZ7 on 12/09/2013
Used to be great
This used to be a destination golf course. They have maintained the greens but let the rest go. This course has a great, fun to play layout but they have let it all grow over. Running super thin staffing, no bar.
Pricey for conditions
There's no bev cart. the fairways are terrible at the moment have been for awhile. Pace was pretty good and the Tee boxes and greens are great.
80 bucks for a weekend round for the conditions is rough.
Poor conditions and no amenities
So sad as this used to be a great course. $80 to play and the only thing good was the greens. Fairways you had to move your ball to get a good lie and grass to hit on and rough was mostly non existent. No restaurant anymore in the clubhouse and no cart girl. Not worth the money at all. Will not play again.
Downhill Slide
This once-beautiful course has deteriorated. The difficult greens are pristine, for sure. But the fairways are truly bad, dried-out, arid grass with thousands of pock marks of green, lumpy surface. Gotta play winter rules and just be satisfied with placing your ball. And the vegetation along the fairways and around the tees has just been trimmed long ago and ignored. Dead, smelly and ugly. But the real problem is the cost. It's way higher than even better courses in this area, and that's why pace of play is rated so well. The restaurant is closed. The course has lost tons of customers. The staff, God bless them, are really great folks. But this has all the appearance of a course that is hanging on by a thread as long as possible, soon to be out of business and maybe sold to developers. Too bad.
The course has suffered some real winter damage on the fairways. It is in very rough shape with all the cold weather and snow that Southern California has recently received. I love the layout of this course and hope that it can be brought back to the condition that it deserves to be kept in.
COURSE GOING DOWN HILL
COURSE IS WORSE THAN LAST TIME I PLAYED, NO GRASS ON FAIRWAYS AND LOOKS LIKE THEIR GOING UNDER,,TOO BAD,,,TURN ON THE WATER,,
Fair course but expensive
This is a typical course in this area, meaning it plays like every other underfunded municipal tract. Crappy lies, no sand in bunkers, etc. It is overpriced. There was nobody there, so pace of play was the only good thing about it. It is a good place to play a practice round if you get a great price on a hot deal.
Terrible: Oak Valley has turned into a COW PASTURE
I've spent February in the Palm Springs area for the last 15 winters.. I've played Oak Valley annually for the last couple of years. It was always in borderline "rough" condition but this time it was over-the-top. I've seen abandoned golf courses in better condition. Oak Valley has a championship layout but it has turned into a cow pasture due to neglect. I play 9 holes and left. Sad to see what it has become. I'll play it again when I hear it's under new ownership with improvements. Otherwise i'm done with it.
