Despite the ratings
Great course. It is in really good shape. Greens are top notch.
Coming from NJ/PA they are missing an opportunity. No cart girl, no clubhouse for beverages or food before or after a round. Just a boring round of golf.
It’s a narrow and short course. Don’t get a cart unless you’re carrying a cooler.
Houses everywhere. You could show up with a 7wood, 7 iron, PW, 56, and putter and not need another club regardless of HC. The round consisted of…… Tee off, PW/56, and putt for every hole.
The course is in great shape despite the other reviews…. Just can’t swing for the moon. Every shot needs to be calculated. Kinda boring.
Disappointed
I scheduled and paid through Golf Now and they had no record on their computer. Fortunately the scheduler worked us in.
The greens were sanded. Not notified in advance and had to pay full price.
The tee boxes were chewed up !
Tee Boxes still terrible
The Tee Boxes are have been the worst I've seen at any course. And it's been this way for years.
March 2026
The greens were in great shape, but the sand traps and tee boxes need a lot of work.
Great Day @ Sugarloaf
I thoroughly enjoyed my round @ Sugarloaf. We teed off @ 9:40AM and completed the round in about 3 hours and 15 minutes (foursome). While this is an executive course, it does offer some tight/challenging holes. Greens and fairways were in very good condition. Some tee boxes and bunkers could use some work, but it was still a very good experience for the price. Course staff is helpful/friendly.
Sugarloaf GC
Course is a great 18 hole walk. Normal start shack is closed. Lots of confusion over where to start. GolfNow should reflect the fact you need to check in and start at Valley of the Moon Course.
Course Changes
Management decided to permanently close Sugarloaf’s clubhouse and parking lot. Now golfers have to start on hole 4 a tough 201 yard number one handicap hole. Not a fun way to start your round. Sad to see the facilities of the Sugarloaf Club just sit there as unused infrastructure wasted.
Golf Experience
Sugarloaf golf course in Sonoma was a great overall experience! Will be going back in September when visiting again.
Quick round
The course was not crowded as much as would be expected for weekend play. Therefore the pace was good and the round went fairly quickly, being an executive course. It's an easy course to walk, however I did use a cart to get through my round quicker.
Birthday fun!
Three of us are long time SoCO residents who have played this course many times. First time under this name... If find the name fitting, given the proximity, This is a gem of an executive course, and this was a perfect time of year to enjoy it. Not as long as some other local courses, but, every bit as enjoyable. The four of us had a great time during our birthday round! It was Lance's first time on an 18 hole course, and he had a blast. He's the one teeing off on 1...
Good beginner course
This is a very basic course with a small clubhouse. No driving range. The holes are all par 3 or 4. Perfect for a quick round. The staff were cold but not rude. The course is in decent shape but not as nice as other courses in the Sonoma county area. If you want a basic cheap golf course, this is your spot.
Oakmont East May 2025
Parts of the rough are really rough. The sand traps need work. Greens were in good shape.
Nice little course, terrible tee boxes
This is a fun little course to walk on a nice day. Everything is about what I'd expect but the tee boxes are horribly uneven and tore up. It can make it tough to get a decent tee shot off when the ball is above or beneath you or your foot is in a hole.
They really need to fix this, everything else is good!
