Foxtail Golf Club - South Course
About
There are two championship courses at Foxtail Golf Club, the North and the South. Situated in the heart of wine country, both courses enjoy a lush, scenic landscape and pleasant views of the surrounding countryside. The longer and more difficult North Course was completely redesigned to make it more challenging but the player-friendly South Course has remained a favorite destination of both Sonoma and Marin Counties for its playability. It provides a more beginner-friendly option than the North, but there are still plenty of challenges in store. No water hazards come into play but there are several strategically placed bunkers as well as trees lining the fairways. In addition to the two golf courses, Foxtail also boasts one of the best practice facilities in the North Bay. There is a full driving range available as well as chipping and putting greens.

Tricky and challenging course!
The North Course is a little pricey, but it’s a fun and technical course, and is usually maintained well. The greens have some tricky layouts with plenty of fluffy fairway bunkers, green side bunkers, water and trees to keep you on your game. The greens were recently aerated, so putting wasn’t the best, but it’s a necessary evil that keeps the greens healthy. Bring a snack, because there aren’t many amenities for the North Course. The do offer a food delivery service but it’s a crap shoot as to how quickly you’ll get it. Overall, it’s a fun course and I try to take advantage of an discounted tee times to make it a better value for me.
North course
Saturday afternoon was a beautiful day. The greens had just been punched 5 days prior and while they were a tad slower, the putts still held their line. The north course is more challenging than the south as there are 4 dog left/right holes which make you really think about your distance and Club selection. Overall, I enjoyed the north a lot more than swampy South.
Cut the rough
The course needs to send the greens keeper to cut the rough around the course to speed up pace of play. Balls were hard to find unless you were standing right onto of them and hard to hit out of 2+ inches of thick grass.
Fire your grounds keeper!
This course was in the worst shape of ANY course I’ve EVER played on. The fairways were so long it was hard to find the ball in the fairway. Off the fairway, no chance!
Fun course for a reasonable price
Had a nice day out at the South course. Unfortunately it had been raining heavily for several days before we played so the conditions were a bit soggy. This meant we were restricted to cart path only during our round. Completely understandable when you are playing in February. Greens were in great condition and the staff was friendly. I will return to play again in a few months.
Course conditions
Course has a good layout, greens are nice, they lack on maintenance, bunkers need help
Solid track
Good layout despite the housing nearby, it’s far enough off of most holes to not be intimidating. Course was in great shape for the time of year, but actually soggy in spots. Shocked they overwater in CA in August! Would definitely play again.
Nice Course. It pace of play very slow
The North course at Foxtail is a nice layout with some decent challenging holes. For the most part the course is in good condition. However, they had some irrigation issues and there were many muddy places due to overwatering. The course really needs to do a better job of controlling the pace of play. We had a 3 some in front of us who were bad golfers and they had at least 1-2 holes open in front of them. Our round ended being an hour longer than it needed to be and we only saw a Marshall once the whole round.
