About
Carlton Oaks Country Club is the only public Dye Design golf course in San Diego. The course is covered with hundreds of mature trees interspersed with sparkling blue lakes and meandering creeks. The layout offers a diverse mix of holes that all possess a unique character. They all offer different challenges in the form of either water hazards of strategically placed sand traps along the fairways. Tricky pot bunkers and interesting elevation changes were also incorporated into the design as well as Dye's signature railroad ties. There are five very different sets of tees that offer a challenging round from the back tees but also enough playability to appeal to a range of skill levels. In addition to the enjoyable layout, Carlton Oaks is one San Diego's most centrally located courses, sitting just minutes from downtown and many of the city's major attractions.

Can be an interesting course if they clean up and put some effort on the course. It looks like someone just want to own the course without maintaining,…
We played early morning,,, it was freezing cold, couldn’t even get coffee because restaurant was closed. They don’t have to serve food but at least get something warm tea or coffee,…first thing in the morning.
Carlton Oaks
The course does not look like it has been maintained in months. The leaves on the ground alone made it very difficult to locate the ball. The fairways were dead and bounced like concrete. Maybe 4 holes had ok greens.

Don’t be 5 minutes late
Booked through golf now, I was 5 mins late from traffic. They wouldn’t let me on or get a refund. I would never even attempt to go here ever again. Looking from the club house, the course wasn’t in the best condition either. I would never recommend this place to anyone.

Very challenging course. So lucky to have it so close by.
Horrible
Horrible condition. It’s hard to play a full round of golf without landing on grass all day. Weeds, mud, overgrown bumpy uneven tee boxes, gopher mounds, hard packed bunkers, wasteland bunkers completely unkept, etc. My friend literally had a gopher pop up one foot in front of him on an approach causing an errant shot. Hysterical actually, and was the best moment of the day.. Thank You Carlton for the laughs!
Bad conditions
Mr chen needs to spend some money on course maintenance, fairway grass is nonexistent, constantly have to find some green grass to hit off. Bunkers are just as bad, hard as concrete and lots of rocks. Greens were ok and they actually mowed the tee boxes.
Decent size for price.
Greens are slow and overly complicated, a lot of dirt areas, undergrown grass
Course is a train wreck
Great staff but the course conditions are poor. Needs a complete overhaul. Felt like we were playing on cement
