Go Play LPGA! Photo submitted by oakleyduff on 06/26/2013
Keep it in the fairways!
Very challenging and beautiful, need to keep the ball in the fairways or will definitely lose a stroke. Have fun and keep your head down!
Course was it terrible shape
The fairway was so soggy you could barely play. We ended up only playing 9.
This course shouldn’t have been open.
The course conditions are AWFUL. A boggy swamp is the best way I would describe the fairway conditions. When hit into said fairway the ball wouldn’t roll, it just kinda lodged itself into the ground. You could cause a divot with a pillow, probably. Greens were slow to match. This place had no business being open. Beware if the price is lower than normal, because it’s more than likely due to course conditions being close to unplayable.
Great
In great shape other than a most approaches are wet on the back 9. Leaky irrigation I bet.
Overpriced for the conditions
Played here a few times prior to today and I liked the course. Right now, the greens warrant a $50 green fee. By far, the poorest I’ve seen anywhere in Florida. Ridiculously slow and very bumpy. Pretty much ruined the round for all of us. No attention paid to the bunkers either. Got ripped off at over $100. Paying for range balls at over $100 is also pathetic. No desire to return….many courses in far better shape for the same money.
Not the same experience
This used to be one of my favorite golf courses. Unfortunately the beautiful natural woods that lined this amazing golf course have all been clear cut and houses are being built everywhere. So sad… I am grateful that I got to play it many times in it natural surroundings.
Overpriced
Don't pay more than $40.00 to play very disappointed . Always played here before the conditions were always great not anymore.
A Good day at LPGA
Played the Hills course today. The course was in great shape. A little wet in spots. Overall another great day to be alive.
Tough course
I have played here many times but not for several months as the course is just too expensive. The rates fluctuate on demand. Got a good rate today. Although the course is a very good layout, it is very, very tough for golfers who can't carry their ball a long distance. The tee boxes were very good. The fairways were dry and were turning brown in a lot of spots. The greens had been aerated not long ago but that was not my complaint. I just felt that the "new" greens they installed are not that nice. At least three were in below average shape. And my biggest complaint were the extremely wet conditions in front of the greens. No ball could roll onto the green if you hit it a bit short. Made it unfair. I recommend the course but not for short hitters.
Needs better customer service
Both course layouts are excellent and in good condition. No water stations or coolers on the course is a problem, especially during the hot humid days. Halfway snack house was closed and service in the main restaurant was slow and lacking.
Greens were in poor aerated shape. I was scheduled to play the Hills course because they said it was a good shape since the greens had been aerated one month earlier, but then they did a surprise aeration the day before I played.
Love the course, but…
The Hills course is one of my favorites. I live an hour away so I don’t go there unless they have a special rate that day, which is becoming much less frequent. This time the course was soggy wet almost everywhere from tee to green. I saw sprinklers going so I’m not sure it was from rain.
Love the course but greens sanded and punched
Play this course all the time and enjoy it but man I hate it when you get there and find out greens are sanded and pinched and really not that playable and the greens are what makes this xourse a challenge. I wish Florida courses would subscribe to greenkeeper.org. In my home state all courses updated so you could see who was going thru maintenance . Florida? I think it’s intentional slight to not disclose this at check in or booking .
A Trying Experience
I was looking forward to a round on the Hills Course at LPGA (the course specified for our tee time) since I hadn't played it for a while. We were met by a friendly and efficient bag man who got us set up promptly with a cart. We headed to the Pro Shop where a friendly lady checked us in and even asked us which course we would like to play -- Hills or Jones. Nice touch.
But when we arrived at Hole #1 of the Hills Course the Starter drove up and advised us that the course was closed because there were workers on the course. OK, maybe the Pro Shop was unaware that the Hills Course was closed. So we went over to the Jones Course where the Starter paired two singles to play with us.
The tees and fairways were in fine shape. The greens had been punched fairly recently so were bumpy and slow. We could handle that OK, but we encountered two serious deficiencies for play. First and foremost, there just weren't enough water stations on the course which is a severe and dangerous handicap on a warm and humid day. And there was no beverage cart to mitigate that major problem. The second big deficiency was the condition of the bunkers. There was sufficient sand, but it looked like the bunkers hadn't been groomed for at least a month if not much longer. There were plenty of wash outs (and we haven't had a lot of rain recently) and deep footprints were everywhere.
.
Green damage
A run course to play but what is going on with the greens on the back nine? Several of the greens look completely dead. This is not the course I new in the past! The pace of play was quick due to the hot weather but I prefer it over having to wait every shot when it's cooler.I can only assume that the green conditions will improve.
More than I expected.
We've been coming to Daytona Beach for 20+ years and I've always wanted to play the Hill course. Definitely was worth the wait and the course was tough but it was setup great.
The greens had been aerated so that was a little disappointing, but I would play it again.
Nice course but POOR communication
After making the turn we teed off on hole #10. When we got close enough to see the grren we could not see the flag. We drove to the geen and noticed the flag and cup laying on the side of the green. We thought how weird they stopped changing the hole location half way through. We putted out to where the last hole location was. As we headed bck to the cart a woman (later identified as the Asst. Administrator) approached on a work cart and rudely informed us that the back nine was closed. We asked when did that happen and she replied rudley again it is closed. No one in the club house told us this information when we checked in for the round and the person who gave us the cart and loaded our bags did not mention it either. We started playing the front 9 over and while on the 1st tee a single pulled up so we let him play through. We asked if he knew the back 9 was closed and he said no. You would think a course like LPGA in Daytona Beach would have better communication about half a course being closed, and it wpuld have also been nice if there was at least a sign on the 1st tee box and/or the 10th tee box. VERY DISAPPOINTED,
