Go Play LPGA! Photo submitted by oakleyduff on 06/26/2013
I played both the Hills and Jones courses multiple times during my visit to Daytona Beach. I especially loved the Hills design. Every hole was unique and challenging.
Great course
I played for the first time at the Hills course, I booked as a single and was able to play as a single as nobody took the 3 available times, I was able to tee off early and was 40 minutes ahead of pace! Starter l/Marshall was real nice, excellent layout! Only drawback was no divot repair mix on course or carts!
Pace of play
It was a bad start, they had a scramble coming through waited for 5 groups after our tee time. Then it was very slow waited every shot almost a 5hr 15min round. The course was in good shape and the greens rolled nice, but when you wait every shot that takes away your interest
Leaved Paradise and Put Up a Parking Lot
We first played Hills a few years ago and found it somewhat challenging. It was in great shape. Unlike the Jones course, you could feel at times like you were alone with the course. Many of the holes were completely surrounded by Florida swamps and forests. It was beautiful. They’ve ruined it. There is now a giant construction site sprawling through the course like a scab. The incessant beeping of construction equipment punctuates your putting, and sand and dust blows around.
Greed is rampant, and they oversold the day. Pace of play was fine, once we got out on the course. However, our tee off was delayed 40 minutes by their horrendous time management. There were about two dozen frustrated golfer hanging around aggravating to poor cart guy, while they waited for carts to come back.
Maybe Hills will someday become a nice course winding through a development. Right now, if you play it, bring a hard hat. I’m out.
LPGA int the Same
Well, we delayed teeing off for well over an hour because they had a college tournament in front of us which allegedly resulted in no carts being available. This wasn’t mentioned at check in. When we finally got to play, we discovered that vast tracks of the property between the fairways were under excavation for housing development, which sent dust over everything and everyone with the added bonus of large equipment noise. To top it off, we went through 3 golf carts due to battery failure. No one, and I mean no one apologized for this fiasco. In mentioning this to the person in the pro shop I was told new carts were on order and no consideration or compensation would be given for our experience. Well, I’ve played this course a number of times and never will again.
The pace was slow on back nine but other than that it was a great day
LPGA Hills
The course was in good shape even though they had sanded the greens. They still putted well. Just had too many people playing!
For the money it should have been in better condition.and carts should be equipped with gps.
A bit disappointing
Course conditions are great. However there is not one ball washer on the entire course! Also no pictures of the hole layout on the score card.
Additionally the area around the course is full of large earth movers and bare clear cutting of the trees. Natural area surrounding the course is being destroyed to add housing I assume.
Best in the area
The Hills course is a more challenging layout than the Jones course in my opinion. Very little room for error in most cases. If your ball is off target, you may be unable to locate it due to the natural hazards. Sand bunkers need attention and course does not supply enough rakes to be maintained be players during play. Fairways and greens in above average condition. LPGA International is our favorite place to play in and around Daytona.
Going down hill.
You can see they just aren’t putting money into he operation. There was literally a 30 person deep 30 minute delay from scheduled t-time because they didn’t have enough carts to service the play. This is patently absurd. I inquired and learned they are on the 5th year of a 4 year lease agree to replace carts. (Again cost cutting erasure while play suffered). Why is this bad? Because as you would expect, my cart dies on the 15th hole. Stranded and holding people up. They brought another out, then the twosome we were playing their cart died one hole later. Two old men and they were hot! Pace of play SLOOOOOWWWW and the rangers drive around but do nothing to speed up play. Positive? The greens where. Very good. Mostly true will a little speed such that if you were on the wrong side of the hole it was punitive.
Good course serviced poorly
Condition was fairly good. However, on course services were terrible. Got to the range and no buckets. Had to retrieve empties from the range. Several green tee markers missing. No water on the course. No towels in carts. No Ranger to move slow groups along. Compared to prior years I’ve played there, the playing experience has diminished considerably. Heard excuse of full tee sheet due to race weekend. You didn’t know that ahead of time?
