Go Play LPGA! Photo submitted by oakleyduff on 06/26/2013
Missing Something
Normally I never say negative things about LPGA courses but some small things are starting to add up. Bunkers are in bad shape, most haven’t been groomed in a while. Greens are rolling fast and true, but even high soft landing pitches are rolling off. Ruff up a little high for me, maybe not for a scratch golfer. Never saw a cart girl the whole round, and the turn snack bar closed.
LPGA is the gold standard in Daytona, please don’t let it get away.
Beautiful course and surrounding area
We were amazed at the setting of this course. So many lakes, trees, creeks. Such a nice change from the usual courses surrounded by houses.
Hills course: Will be back
Though this course winds thru Florida nature, I did not feel the fairways or approach shots were unfair or overly difficult. Knowing the course on a few holes (where to miss etc.) would've been helpful. This course is not set up in neighborhood housing, so you feel is just you and the course. The greens were faster than I'm used to so i had many 2-4 foot 2nd putts. Greens are smaller so a good chipping game is critical. I'll play this again on my next trip to Daytona loved the layout. I need to give it my revenge this the next time.
Nice amenities but poor execution
Seemed like one bad experience after another. First we paid $9 for range balls & put code in & machine spit out ONE range ball. Range is all the way on the other side of the parking lot so just forget it going back to the clubhouse.
Next I asked 3 different people if beverage cart was out otherwise I would get beverage before going out & was told yes. It was 90+ degrees outside & of course no beverage cart out & halfway house was shut down & one restroom area on course with nasty water fountain that barely works after hole 7 I believe.
Next I had to drive back in to clubhouse from #10 tee to get beverages. Went to bar & of course they don’t serve canned beverage there. You have to go to pro shop to get beer & water??? Why I didn’t think that you had to go to pro shop for drinks instead of the Food & Beverage department/Bar??? Who would have thunk it???? Went to pro shop to get drinks & of course nothing to put them in. Coolers on your cart. Went back outside to get my cooler & no cooler. I had to get cooler off another cart to put beverages in. Brought inside, filled my own cooler with beer & water & paid for them & of course I paid automatic 20% gratuity to get everything myself??? Then asked for ice & he said oh you get your ice outside from the cart guys??? Makes total sense..... why not ice & drinks from the bar/restaurant which is right next door to the pro shop??? Makes sense to me?? Went outside in search of cart barn guy & nobody around so waited to get cart guy to get ice then drove all the way back to #10 tee box to play the back 9 which is a 2-3 minute cart ride.
Golf course & golf experience was nice. Execution of amenities offered inside clubhouse is a little backwards. Auto 20% gratuity for the service you get, otherwise get it yourself is ridiculous.
Hill in the aummer
As we know summer is maintance time. The course was recently airatated. Greens coming along nicely.
Decent Round....Wet Course
The course was very wet....I also wish that I had know they had recently aerated and sanded the greens. If you did not carry it in the air, the ball would stop due to the wet fairways. Greens were OK, but it was a sandy mess to play...Have to spend some time scrubbing all of the clubs after the round today....
Nice Conditions
It has been a while since I played here because the price has been high but conditions were good and I got a good price and decided to try it again. I have always been fond of the course because of the layout and conditions.. It still has the best conditions of any public course in the area but you have to pay for that.
Flooded
Course was extremely wet. Large pools in bunkers and several fairways. Course was cart path only, at 90 degrees. Pace of play was slow as people had to walk to their ball under the heat and course was playing very long. Took a while for the cart lady to find us. Starter was very friendly and helpful. Probably a great course but very hard to say under these conditions.
Need a feel good round?
Played the white tee today, found the over all length to be a little shorter than expected. Having said that the overall conditions were great (except bunkers- they need sand/luv) Greens roll true and pins were tough but fair. The fairways were super wide and made for an enjoyable round.
Play LPGA Hills Course
Despite all of the rain the Hills course was in great shape. Greens were excellent and very consistent. Pace of play was good. We will play both courses again.
Very Wet
The course had seen a lot of rain over the last few days. Under the circumstances, the superintendent and staff deserve a lot of credit. Although soft, the course was very playable
