About
Bonaventure Golf Club (formerly known as Bonaventure Country Club) is a classic Florida layout with holes routed through strands of mature palms and hardwoods, and around numerous water hazards and expansive bunkers. This course, designed by Joe Lee, is also called the Green Monster. Some people call it the Cascade Course because of the waterfall on the picturesque 160-yard, par-3 third. This signature hole has a waterfall that stretches across the front of the green.

Golfer Reviews
Hugely Improved and Playable
Last played here a year or so ago when it was being renovated, and 2 or 3 years ago it was just awful completely neglected cow pasture.
What an improvement! The course is now in respectable shape with good greens and tee boxes. There are only a few areas of hardpan in a couple of fairways on the back 9, but everything else was well grassed even in cold dormant weather and played well. Most bunkers were renovated with that sinking soft silty sand but there were a few fairway bunkers that were hardpan-ish with firm rake lines. Greens were tricky to read break and hard to judge pace. They rolled about an 8 for us even though they looked faster.
The course is still pretty tough with a lot of water. Almost every tee shot is hit fairway vs hit water. The water hazards are all steeply dredged deep, so you'll never retrieve any ball that goes in, even if it just barely falls in.
Other positives: Girl at bag drop was super friendly and actually greeted us and helped us out. She must have been a golfer because she actually put the bag on the cart and strapped it in without trapping our towels and zippers and stuff. Pro shop guy was friendly. Staff changed at bag drop when we finished and the boys were also nice and friendly.
Negatives: No food anywhere. Not inside and not with cart girl. Cart girl was friendly but kind of drove with the groups instead of driving from 18-->1. Figured we would see her again around the turn but only was able to get something to drink by hole 16. Once they improve the snack and drink situation, this place could get regular play again.
Would definitely come back and try it again.
Unacceptably slow pace of play
The pace of play was so slow we decided to stop after 9. We were pacing around 5.5 - 6 hours. Never again.
Ok course but they oversell the course and the pace of play suffers. Started at 1:30 and didn’t finish for about 5 hours. In fact, three groups ahead of me quit before finishing. No drink or snack cart was driving around so make sure you pack your own snacks and drinks. The course is fine but the greens need work.
Slowest round ever
Played Saturday at 2pm. 3 foursomes lined up at every tee. 3 and a half hours for 9 holes. Ended up playing the front 9 twice and finished at 630pm in the dark. Ranger was useless.
High Degree of Difficulty
If you like long par 4s and 5s along with medium par 4s that have to circumnavigate large ponds with angled shots into greens, this is your course. I’m a 14 handicap and found Bonaventure to be very challenging especially with my game not working as well as normal. Course conditions were scruffy but playable. Driving range needs tons of work.
Good value but slow play
Tee times seem to be every 7 min which makes tee times available at a good price but makes pace of place slow
Restaurant needs to be opened up
The restaurant needs to be opened up. It being closed takes away from the total Golf experience. If the restaurant was opened up, it would really turn the business of the golf course around while I was there. I heard a lot of people complaining about the restaurant not being open.
Course
Course Condition was very good have played here before and it is very much improved. Very nice employee in the pro shop If you played here before and weren’t going to go back because of the conditions you need to see it now. Pace of play not so good.,
The staff is extremely rude with scummy tee times
They load up members on the tee sheet for tee times that are not available to the public. This alone would be fine, but they do it so there is only 5 minutes between tee times (I doubt golf now would allow this). Do not be surprised if your tee time is bumped back 20 minutes if they just squeeze 4 groups off in front of you in 15 minutes. There will always be a back up on the first hole
