Bonaventure Golf Club

About
Bonaventure Golf Club (formerly known as Bonaventure Country Club) is a classic Florida layout with holes routed through strands of mature palms and hardwoods, and around numerous water hazards and expansive bunkers. This course, designed by Joe Lee, is also called the Green Monster. Some people call it the Cascade Course because of the waterfall on the picturesque 160-yard, par-3 third. This signature hole has a waterfall that stretches across the front of the green.

What happened? They were getting so close to fixing it.
I played a month ago and the course has led definitely improved to the best it has been in many many years. I came back yesterday to play and couldn’t believe how the course had deteriorated (with the exception of the Greens). All I could think of was either the Head Greenskeeper left or ownership pulled the plug on funding maintenance. Weeds everywhere, sprinkler pipes broken leaking water next to greens on 6 and 13.
I will have to find another place to play as I was excited with the improvements, since I live 5 minutes away. Luckily Pembroke Lakes is fairly close and is always in good shape, as is Jacaranda.
Super sad to see the progress they made on the course fall apart so quickly.
Hoping ownership steps up and spends some money quickly not to lose any more golfers.
Slow and annoying
They stacked the course with too many foursomes. We started on time at 9:37 and had to wait for each hole to start. There were backups everywhere. People were hitting up on us trying to play. But we had to wait to hit on every hole. After almost 5 hours and only through 16 holes, we left. They only care about profit, not about golfer’s enjoyment. The course was okay, but I prefer Woodmont or Westchester at the same price point
Nice day
Course was a little bit dry naturally. Slow play ahead of us, but overall a good experience.
I’ll come back.
Vacation golf
Excellent layout with lots of water and lots of character. Greens were in very good shape and putted very well. Tee boxes and fairways were thin and rough and need a lot of work. Same with roughs. Course was very busy and had to wait half hour for a cart. No balls for practice range. Cart girl drove right in front of golfer getting g ready to hit several times. Price was good and greens good but course needs a lot of work.
Slow play, ran out of carts.
The course was over crowded. It took 5 hours to play. They ran out of carts so we started later than our tee time. Conditions weren’t bad. Fairways and greens are overseeded, so there is a big difference between those and the rest of the playing area. Greens are very small. Overall, a bit overpriced for how slow it played and not being in great condition.
too slow, greens very small
first time out here, confusion on first tee, another group said they had same tee time as us, no starter there, so we went ahead of them. Group in front of us had 3 teenagers and dad, all trying to play from blue tees but obvious beginners at best, flubbing shot after shot, saw them lose at least 30 to 40 balls. Lots of water and was windy so challenging, did not expect tiny greens, missed couple times by few yards only to find ball off green on hardpan lie or stoney bunker. No marshalls out. There are better shape courses for same price out there, so will not be coming back. Finished in 4h:45 time, waited on every teebox, and we were 4 players. Have nice picture from tee box on 3rd hole with nice waterfall in background up by front of green. was one memorable hole.
Needs some TLC
Was first golfer out so pace of play hard to say. The course needs some TLC. The greens weren’t awful (I’ve seen worse) the sand traps were raked and had fresh sand in them but the edges were shot. The fairways are beat. Tee boxes weren’t best weren’t the worst I’ve played either. Pro shop is weak. In a pinch it’s a playable course. Other places available at same price
Slow Play Times
It is a nice course however it has slow play times in the morning due to overbooking and 6 person play times. Best to play in the afternoon if you want to get through the 18 holes at a reasonable pace.
Course condition is much better!
Good layout with plenty of water. The course provides plenty of challenges to weekend golfers.
The conditions of the course improve a lot. It would be much better if they made the greens smoother and mowed the grass shorter to make them roll faster. Overall, it's a very playable course.
