Royal New Kent Golf Club

This is probably one of the best courses I’ve played in VA. I live near DC but was in the Richmond area and gave this place a shot.

The course is in PERFECT condition. Greens were some of the best I’ve ever putted on, although with various ridges and false fronts they provided a great challenge.

Played solo and finished my round in a little under 2 1/2 hours. Highly recommend and I’ll be back for sure!

I found myself in Virginia with 5 hours to kill between meetings and decided to hit the links. I looked up the closest course and headed that way. Boy, am I glad I ended up at Royal Kent. This course was unbelievably fun to play. For some of the holes, I’d blindly hit my tee shot, get up to the ball, see the green and couldn’t help but smile when I saw the green placement. The layout was just so different, creative, and just so dang cool.

This was the most difficult course I’ve ever played. Mostly because of the greens. If you play, I recommend spending at least 15 minutes hitting putts on the practice green.

As far as value goes...I’m not sure there’s a better value for the golfing experience. I have never done a review on here before but my experience at Royal Kent was so great that I had to leave a review.

Now, go make a tee time and have fun three putting more times than you could imagine!

I have played this course a few times now and every time I have left loving it even more. The course has been in outstanding condition no matter the weather. The course provides a fun challenge to any golfer and provides some beautiful scenery. Could not recommend this course more,

I actually told the head guy there that lowering his rates would get more people, but the truth is even at $50 playing this course is a steal!!

Beautiful course in perfect condition! Challenging, yet makes the good shots all that much better.

The course is in amazing shape, the fairways and greens are in great shape. A wonderful way to spend the day. Highly recommend for every golfer!

First time playing this course and will definitely be back. It is among the most challenging courses I have played anywhere in the country. It is hard to believe it is just 25 minutes outside of Richmond. The entire course was in excellent condition, especially the greens—there was not a single blemish to be found and they rolled fast and true. The staff in the Proshop was friendly and knowledgeable. Make sure you follow their advice to utilize the practice green before you go out. I can’t wait to get back and play it a second time.

This was my first time playing here and will not be my last. I drove 40 mins to see only 5 cars in the parking lot. Started my round at 1500 and was finished by 1815. Bob found the best rate for an active duty service member and applied it to my round. He was adamant about hitting the putting green so that I get a feel for the green speed. I’ll be damned if I didn't hit the first four at about 8 feet out. That did not happen throughout the course though lol. Bring a cell phone GPS app so that you will have an idea on where the green location will be, trust me, you will need this. Tee boxes were so dad gum beautiful and if you hit the fairway, you will appreciate the fairway. I found nothing wrong with this course at all. You will not be hitting driver all day as this course is a shot makers course. I was pretty sad I had to enjoy such a wonderful course by myself but will be back again!!!!

Overall great experience at Royal New Kent, course and green were in fantastic shape. Make sure to download the gps app on your phone as there aren’t many yardage makers.

Truly different golfing experience than you can find anywhere else in the state. Free range balls is and large practice and putting greens is a plus.Will be back!

Just played RNK since it reopened this spring. The course was in great shape and the greens were rolling at 12. Needless to say I had more putts than normal, but it was fun to be challenged. The course is difficult and challenges you on every hole. That is the fun of the course. I will be back to enjoy the challenge again.

Also the course personnel were great and provided us much needed cold water on a very hot day (95 deg).

Have played this course several times over the years and it is in the best shape since opening in 1998.

Just a tremendous challenge but very fair. It’s definitely not for the novice golfer but the great thing is that there are six set of tees. Please choose tees that fit your ability.

The greens are fantastic and roll true and quick. Try not to be putting from above the hole.

The staff in the clubhouse were extremely welcoming and friendly.

A true gem that is a must for the real golfer.

A beautiful and fun course. Challenging but fair layout. Greens were quick and had a lot of movement but they were in great shape! Definitely going to play it again! Very friendly staff, it was not crowded at all but only because many pros don't know about it! If you visit Williamsburg or Richmond definitely a course to play!

Want to get your butt kicked, this is the course for you. It is bear of a course, very difficult and this is coming from a 7 handicap golfer. It is a great challenging course, the layout is awesome. Not sure I’d play there every week, but definitely a must play. Greens are very hard, there are a couple birdie holes & a lot of greens that can easily be 3 putted. It’s on the cheap side of price in comparison to the difficulty in the course. It’s swapped ownership and the new owner seems to dumping money into it. If you have a wild driver and a mediocre putter, you will put up a big number here, but it is a lot of fun & worth playing. Because it’s so challenging, it doesn’t get a lot of golfers, so pace of play is great. Staff is really nice, no bag handlers. What’s nice, bottled water and range balls are free.

If you want to play a course that is similar to a course in Scotland or Ireland, Play this course! A few buddies and I went to Scotland for a golf trip a few years ago and heard about this course so we had to give it a try. We were pleasantly surprised with how the course and the overall feel of the course brought back so many memories of our Scotland golf trip. The greens were rolling great. The course is a great challenge. Definitely will be back again.

So glad that Royal New Kent has come back! I am a bogey golfer, so this course is a serious challenge, but its natural beauty and links feel always make it a rewarding golfing experience. Not only is it one of the most beautiful courses in the state, it is one of the most beautiful landscapes in eastern central Virginia. Beware the speed of the greens!

Excellent tough course! Fair track except for a couple of pin placements which were on the crest of a hill. Staff was extremely courteous and helpful. Definitely would recommend ROYAL NEW KENT.
