A good track
Had a great time on this course. Greens are fast and rolling true for the most part (a few areas under repair). Played on a rainy day, so not too much traffic. I will definitely play again.
Brickshire is a Great Layout
I got to the course almost an hour before my tee time and was ready to go. The starter put me out 30 minutes earlier than my tee time in front of two foursomes. I was on the 1st green when they drove up to the tee box, and I never saw them again. I played as a single and was done in under 4 hours, which was great because it allowed me a little time to stop at Rosie's Casino at Colonial Downs on my way out! Back to the course--it was in great shape. The fairways were good, as were the tee boxes, and greens, which were running fast. The bunkers could use a little work and some were holding water and others had their drainage pipes exposed. But, since I wasn't in any bunkers, it wasn't a bother for me. I love the layout of this course, as it has a good variety of hole shapes, contours, and configurations. Generally, the fairways are wide, but there is some slope and elevation changes so target golf is required on some holes. The staff at the course is always nice and accommodating--from the pro shop, to the starter, to the grill. It's only 35 minutes West of Williamsburg, so always a good course to play.
Beautiful day to golf
The course was in great shape . The tee boxes and greens were nice and in good shape. The greens were relatively fast , the front a bit faster than the back. It seemed like we were the only people on the course , so the pace of play was excellent.
A jewel of a course
Excellent course, well maintained.
The staff is always vibrant and friendly.
A must do!!!!!!
Disappointing
Let me begin by saying the staff I interacted with at the course were very friendly and helpful. They created me with a smile and pointed me in the right direction as this was my first time playing the course. What drew me to play here was the layout descriptions because some of the holes were designed to look like famous holes from other courses I will most likely never get a chance to play. Unfortunately, that is where my disappointment began. The condition of the course was what I would consider rather poor. It looked like the pins had not been moved in weeks, all of the cups were rounded over so much the holes looked about a half inch smaller. The greens had so much sand on them that when I putted my ball would throw up a little rooster tail of sand while it was rolling! There was even little piles of sand in some areas nowhere near a bunker. Which leads me to the condition of the bunkers. Thankfully I only found myself in one bunker as all of them were washed out to the point of up to half inch stones surfacing from the ground below. While the ruff was not thick and did not impose much of a penalty it was incredibly difficult to find your ball just a few feet from the fairway because the ball would drop to the ground and would get covered up by the ruff making it almost impossible to find. For the money I would expect much better playing conditions. Especially because the layout is great. It has forced carryovers on most tee shots, lots of bunkers, every hole was different with lots of mounding and elevation changes. This was and could be a fantastic course if the maintenance was more of a priority.
Pretty but not maintained
Nice layout and some pretty holes but it is obvious that it has not been maintained. Warer in many of the bunkers that look like they haven't been groomed in years. Greens and fairways are very patchy.
Easy to lose your ball in the rough as it is about 4" i.e. it's not been cut in awhile.
Needs work
1. Sand traps or gravel pits, not much difference but you sure couldn’t hit out of them.
2. Greens have not been repaired in a year and had not improved since we played last year. We were told when scheduling our tee times that the course was in good shape.
3. Greens had morning dew making them un-puttable.
4. When paying for a premium course that is what is expected. This course should not have been over 40 to $50.
5. We came from Richmond, it’s not worth the drive for these conditions.
Better stay in the fairway
This could be a great course with better maintenance.
A Gem not being cared for & charging $$$
I love this course. It’s a great layout, and usually well cared for. I’m not sure what came over the management to be charging $95 a round, but nothing this course offered today was worth the money. Every tee box was uncut, greens were holding on by a thread on the edges, and the pace of play was utterly abyssal. If I’m paying near $100 a round, I’m expecting a Marshall on the first tee regulating pace of play. If I’m paying $100 a round, I’m expecting range balls to be available at 9 am on a Saturday. Just truly disappointed with the price jacking that has occurred here. Hope they can meet the level of price they’re asking with their conditions here soon.
Enjoyed the layout of the course and it's a challenging track, but the rough was exhausting to play in with how high it was. Every single time the ball got off the fairway, we joked about having to send a search party to find it, and you just wouldn't see it unless you were on top it. Made for a long round and many lost balls from shots that were often times not that bad.
Greens have recovered
Last time I played, the greens were in terrible shape. Course was in great shape. Fairways were firm from the recent heat but greats were rolling good and damage from last years issues looked to have been resolved. Greens were very slow but probably to protect them from the heat.
