SunRidge Canyon Golf Club
About
SunRidge Canyon Golf Club provides adventure amid natural terrain over 7,002 yards of par-71 golf. The golf course was laid out by the golf course architect Keith Foster, who hid the golf course in the ridges and canyons of the foothills of the McDowell Mountains, one of the last untouched bastions of the Southwestern United States.
The SunRidge Canyon Golf Club's signature hole is the 17th, and it is unique, giving golfers the option of shooting a 209-yard, par 3 over a box canyon today and then going for a 152-yard par 3 from an elevated tee tomorrow. Foster discovered the elevated-tee opportunity during a tour of the golf course while it was being constructed and added the Canyon set of tees right then. The vistas he knew golfers would get were enough to convince Foster to set up the second set of tees.
After a round of golf at the SunRidge Canyon Golf Club, head back to the Ridge Room, which attracts visitors and locals for the great view and Southwestern cuisine.

TLC needed
I've played this course in past years and was looking forward to playinng it again. Unfortunately it is not in good condition right now including fairways and greens. The course conditions in no way compare to other courses I've played in the last few weeks. The back nine are magnificent holes. I'd certainly recommend the course once it comes up to par with its condition.
Great track. Difficult par 4's on back side
Highly recommend. Great shape. Will play again. One of the better courses in the valley I have played.
Very nice layout.
They have a cart shortage. Supposed to start at 1:08 and finally got a cart at 1:25. As sunset is at 5:10, already behind schedule. Course is in transition to winter grass and I understand that they need to keep the grass a little longer......
Fairways grass was long (always grass between the club face and the ball at impact) and the greens were a bit bumpy and slow (8 to 8.5 is my estimate). I would wait until they can mow the fairways and greens closer before returning. Some striking vistas and beautifully designed holes. I'll play there again when the greens are faster.
super fun layout. difficult, but not outrageous. super nice conditions.
I would recommend SunRidge Canyon to anyone. It was an excellent experience. Good golf and spectacular views.
Too much course for the mid to high handicapper, slow play almost always ruins the round at this course.
Have played the course many times for its challange. Last year vowed never to play again after a 5+ hour round. This time was no different. Tee'd off on time and our foursome caught the group ahead on the thrid hole and waited on every single hole after. At one point there were 4 groups on a single hole. The rangers smile and give excuses such as "we had a group of 20 go out this morning" as though a full tee sheet equals slow play.
Good course but not good enough to spend over 5 hours every time we play it--we won't be back.
Excellent overall experience.
The entire staff from outside services, pro shop, starter, and on-course cart staff go out of their way to treat you like a member. The course is challenging, especially the Wicked Six. Not only is it a challenge of your shot making skills, but also to your ability to concentrate for 18 holes. Let up for one minute and a great round can take a quick turn. Love this course!
Great course. Challenging, Especially the back 9
Course is worth the drive. Quite pretty, excellent lay out. Good practice facilities. The back 9 is suppose to be tough...and it is. Uphill and challenging. The course is in great shape.
A great Arizona course if you want elevation change, vistas, cactus and golf - Loved it.
Played the course while in Phoenix for a convention (Nov 2). It had just gone thru its overseeding so the golf was cart paths only, but the course was coming along great, the fairways great. The greens had some time to go, but by mid November I'm sure they will be fanitastic.
Loved the layout, and the "wicked six" finishing holes are a great uphill climb to the beers that await in the clubhouse!
The Wicked 6 were definitely that. Enjoyed the day.
Awesome views great course. I would play it again. Good challenge.
Great views! Challenging
Thoroughly enjoyed my experience there! Staff was excellent. Course has great scenery and fun to play! Can't wait to go back to play again!
Nice desert course
A challenging desert course. Some great views. Cart path only when we played made it more difficult.
Course has interesting and challenging holes with variable difficulty
We played the day before overseeding and the course should not have even been open. We paid $66 to play a course that was in poor shape. We did like the layout and if in good condition would have presented challenges. However the conditions were so poor it ruined what would have been a fun round. I would recommend that if a course is this close to overseeding that it be posted and the rate reflect the course conditions.
Very scenic and challenging course, Great Value
Played this course with my brother on our trip to the Phoenix area. Couldn't believe how nice this course was compared to the ones we normally play for the money. The fairways and greens were in great condition and the scenery was spectacular The wicked 6 is accurately named but fun. I will say I've never been more tired after a round than I was this one. I guess from climbing to all the elevated tee boxes and hilly terrain took its toll.
Sunridge Golf To Remember
The experience was thing to remember. All start with greeting by staff, the checking in like your the only one who count, to the preparation of cart with your club, to the yardage map. The course staff was very helpful with starting on the right tee for your skills, helping on the course with direction and even helping with a misplayed shot. The only drawback was the lack of a driving range, it being revamped for future great times.
This course is fantastic.. It is hard, but fair.
My friend and I love this course. We have played it for the last 15 years. It is always in great shape. It has great features. We will definitely play this course again in the future.
This course was a great test of golf and a great value for the money.
I found the course both extremely scenic and challenging. I found it very difficult with the number of forced carries, specifically on most of the par 3's. The "Wicked Six" was just that, WICKED. I plan on playing the course again, now that I have some prior knowledge of it.
One of the Best Public Courses in Arizona
What a beautiful layout. In addition to a really enjoyable golf experience, the course meanders through some great desert canyon terrrain. From a golf perspective, the course offers many challenging holes that require a variety of shot strategies. There are plenty of bunkers, wash crossings and even a few water holes. I found the course conditions quite good for the time of year of played (September). The warm mid-day weather I endured allowed me to be rewarded with a quick round, about 2 1/2 hours.
First time very impressed
Staff was outstanding especially in the heat of summer.
Spectacular Service!!
It was rainy and a slow day, so no cart-service. We were told so before we went out. Staff members took our order over the phone and brought it to us on the course. Won't find that over-the-top service in too many places.
Course was in great condition for the season.
Not so Wicked
Mix of really good holes, combined with some moderately good holes, and unfortunately you encounter some really bad holes. If you are all about the "one" or "two" hero shots that you just might hit to a semi-ridiculous blind landing area, or to a pin that no player who is counting strokes would ever aim for......then this course will not disappoint.
There are 6 good holes, 6 really good holes, and then 6 disappointing holes.
The 6 really good holes were #2, #6, #8, #12, #17 and #18. The par-3's on this course are great! From the tips they are challenging, require thought and well executed shots. A miss hit shot will still leave you w/ an opportunity to get up and down for par.
The good holes are average with some component that leaves you wanting something a little different either from the tee (awkward line of sight or ball flight, and/or landing area) or on the approach to the green (options for shot selection being very limited).
Overall the course truly is fun to play and you will find it interesting.
But........it is hard to overlook the disappointing holes; #1, #3, #9, #11, #13 and #16. #13 and #16 were disappointing due to hype of the "Wicked 6" that did not match on "Wicked" . Maybe they should call it the "Wicked 4" and the "Ridiculous 2"? Ridiculous due to the line of flight you should be selecting on a blind tee shots and green complexes that were a little too tricked out (the windmill and clowns mouth were missing). #1 is well suited for a 4-man scramble but, if you are keeping your own score the risk/reward doesn't really make much sense. From the tips on #1, a 6-iron off the tee, a sand wedge to the green, and a 10-foot birdie to start my round left me wondering what other course design disappointments lay ahead. I was pleasantly surprised that there are 12-holes that perform well.
Although overall the course has some great par-3's and some interesting holes to play, there are too many other superior courses (design and condition) within 10 minutes of this course that charge similar green fees.....and therefore there is little left to motivate me to play here again.
