SunRidge Canyon Golf Club
About
SunRidge Canyon Golf Club provides adventure amid natural terrain over 7,002 yards of par-71 golf. The golf course was laid out by the golf course architect Keith Foster, who hid the golf course in the ridges and canyons of the foothills of the McDowell Mountains, one of the last untouched bastions of the Southwestern United States.
The SunRidge Canyon Golf Club's signature hole is the 17th, and it is unique, giving golfers the option of shooting a 209-yard, par 3 over a box canyon today and then going for a 152-yard par 3 from an elevated tee tomorrow. Foster discovered the elevated-tee opportunity during a tour of the golf course while it was being constructed and added the Canyon set of tees right then. The vistas he knew golfers would get were enough to convince Foster to set up the second set of tees.
After a round of golf at the SunRidge Canyon Golf Club, head back to the Ridge Room, which attracts visitors and locals for the great view and Southwestern cuisine.

This course is one of the best in Arizona
We played the course on April 8th on our last day of a five day golf trip. We were going to play either Eagle Mountain or this course to end our trip with and I am so glad we chose to play here.
When we arrived, the staff was super friendly and helped us to do everything except hit our shots and drink our bloody marys ....
The starter gave us two of the best tips of the day, which were (1) to make sure we putted on the putting green, because it would be exactly like the greens on the course and (2) that 16 of the 18 greens would break towards the mountains in the distance
The course was in pristine conditions with the fairways mowed perfectly with very few brown areas .... which must be a really tough thing to do considering that almost all of the fairways are riddled with undulation leaving you almost no chance of having a flat lie even if you stipe it right down the middle. There is suffiicient landing areas, but even though I drove the ball straight, I never seemed to be in any of them
The greens are second best to only The Boulders in Carfree, AZ
They are pure, neatly trimmed, and rolled to near perfection. Our only complaint about the greens was that they weren't holding our balls all that well, generally forcing us to club down in anticipation of a great deal of forward roll.
The layout was outstanding, forcing you to hit almost very club in your bag more than once, which is really unusual
On the day we played the wind was gusting up to 50 MPH. In some parts of AZ there were gusts of up to 65 MPH. The wind was so WICKED that semis were blowing over and they had to shut down Interstate 10 for quite some time. This was completely out of the ordinary
I felt the need to mention this because the first nine holes play away from the club house in the same general direction. Then the last nine holes play directly back in to the clubhouse in the exact opposite direction. In "normal" playing conditions the wind is at your back at 5 to 10 MPH on the front side and in your face the same amount on the backside ... Thus making the last six holes (because 10,11, and 12 aren't as hard as the last six) dubbed "THE WICKED SIX"
These holes are some of the best and toughest holes in Arizona. All have unique features that forces you to bring all you've got and then some. Adding another 45 MPH wind into our faces on these holes was astutely devastating. I generally drive the ball about 265 or 270 and was striking the ball extremely well on this day, but could only muster about 200 with the driver. Neither myself nor my partner could get home on any of those holes in regulation. I also forgot to mention that the starter told us that the course was set up with the hardest pin placements available and that they only have this setup once every three weeks where the cups were sometimes cut within three paces of the rough
Nonetheless, these holes are beautiful, challenging, and indeed WICKED
When we finished the staff was profusely apologetic for the wind and could not believe the weather we played in. Some were saying it was the worst they ever saw it.
Then we had cocktails and lunch on the patio. Cocktails were poured well with a good selection of high end liquor to choose from. The food was outstanding and had a great local flavor to it
This is a MUST play !!!!
Great course, facility, and conditions
This is a great course. it is challenging for higher handicap players but the staff is friendly and you move along at a good pace. The views are beautiful and the course conditions are very good.
This course is really great !
Just arriving at the club, the set-up of water and falls is beautiful. We really enjoyed our round of golf. Spectacular views and challenging course.
A little gimmicky for me.
Course has nice views and a lot of elevation changes. If you haven't seen it before it plays difficult. No GPS and saw bev cart once over 18 holes (it doesn't return to clubhouse after 9). A little gimmicky with short par 4's that require a layup with an iron. Fairways severely sloped and even good shots end up in trouble or with sloping lies. If you like target golf you will be happy here. Gotta hit em straight or you will be losing balls. Greens were good but there were borderline ridiculous pin positions.
Spectacular setting and course..
With Golf Now rate this course became one of my all time favorites. Just to be on this well kept course, with mountains, desert, ravines and sage ...and many magnificent homes..was enough. But, the course itself captures your interest and concentration on almost every shot. Would play it again and again.
This course is challenging and beautiful
I set my tee time up using golf now. It was great, as soon as I pulled up to bag drop I gave them my name and confirmation number they put the bag on a cart I went directly to the driving range and then onto the first tee. It doesn't get nicer then this.
Outstanding!
Not much that needs to be said - except if you go to Az to play golf and don't go here, you are missing a great course. Definately add this to your rotation if you are visiting the area to play!
Great layout,. Very good course conditions, the yardage book is your guide.
The course was in good shape. Fairways were cut short and firm, but lush. The greens were rolling true and quick, but not too fast for a recreational round.
Enjoyed the layout. We knew this was a desert style design so we were prepared for the challenge of picking the right club and putting our ball in the best position to score. Tip - use the yardage book it was a big help. Even though it's a desert layout (some shots are target golf), it was fair and fun. Liked going down and then back up the desert canyon, great change of scenery for us Nor Cal forest golfers.
Awesome views!
Awesome views and the layout was great. Very challanging at times. The 18th hole was overly difficult, not a good finishing hole. Otherwise a great course, one that I will play every time I am in Phoenix.
Great course!
Loved the challenge of this course as well as the magnificent views at every turn.
The greens were a pleasure to putt on!
Fairways and greens were perfect, but a lot of unforeseen trouble if you haven't play here before. Front nine you need to use a club less and back nine a club more. Views were OK and course layout was nothing special. Bring a lot of extra balls!
TOUGH COURSE
SLOPE RATING HIGH FOR MID TEES AT 129 6100 YRDS...TIPS 135. GREAT LAYOUT FUN BACK NINE .. BUT GREENS VERY SLOW., DOWN HILL PUTTS SLOWED DOWN.... OVER PRICED...
Poor condition and course design.
I play 4-5 times weekly in the valley, and this is one of the worst conditioned courses year after year. Tee boxes, fairways, greens all require severe attention. The course design on a lot of holes are over the top difficult and I am a 6 handicap and played it from the regular tees. I play it every couple years just for some variety , and have never had fun here yet. Avoid this course .
This course was beautiful to play. The service was noticibly attentive.
The back nine is more challenging- thus slower play. The staff worked hard to keep us within the 4.5 hour round with slower groups in front. Kept coming to our group and asked for our patience. It was nice to hear and the flow was good- didn't have to wait each shot. Beautiful course - had slow greens and need sand in the traps.
Very interesting course, fun to play. Great scenery too.
Fabulous design. Difficult in all areas but not impossible. Very good greens. Club selection a challenge because many holes downhill on the first nine with the back a real climb up the canyon.
Very good . Would love to try it again!
19th hole the best ever!
Played this course early March with three of my buddies and played very difficult. Great layout, but not a bombers course, makes you think at the tee what club to hit which is fun. Customer service the best I've ever experienced and I've been playing golf for 25 years having played the likes of Torrey Pines, La Costa, PGA West Stadium, and the Phoenician. The bag boys were literally reaching in the truck to grab our clubs before we got out of the car!
Top notch place from start to finish and the 19th hole is tremendous with an outdoor bar with some of the best views of the valley and mountains.
The yardages aren’t marked very well on the course, but this will improve according to the staff.
Please go play, you won’t be disappointed.
Always a great experience. Tough, but fair and a good value relative to all other options in the area.
This course is always a great experience. It's a tough course, but fair and I think the value is very good, especially as it relates to other options in the metro area. I play here at least once every trip.
Great dessert course!
If you can get this for a discount is very worth it. Very challenging and extreme scenic. If you want a dessert course in AZ this is a great choice.
Good course but, overpriced
Good challenging course with much of back nine uphill. In good but, not great condition. Seemed overpriced to me.
Will have to play again to figure out if all the issues were just bad luck that day.
Two-some in front of us was tied to the Golf School and at first did not seem to care how long they took to play a hole. We soon were caught up to more groups in front of us and slowed the round down to un-acceptable.
Party was going at the Clubhouse when we came to 18. It was like a Frat House party and very disturbing playing out 18 right next to this loud activity.
