About
Located in Mesa, Desert Sand Golf Course is an executive length course with a short layout that is most suitable for beginners, but it is also a good place for golfers of all skill levels to work on their short game skills. Due to its flat terrain, the course is easy to walk with few elevation changes. The greens are remarkably fast and water hazards come into play on five holes. There are also sand bunkers scattered throughout the course. The Desert Sand Golf Course facility offers a chipping area and putting green and it is also home to a golf school.

Pace of Play
My wife and a 3rd person in our group of 3 teed of at 10:35am on Sunday, November 14, 2021. The foursome in front of use was extremely slow. Our round of golf took 4 hours 15 minutes. We did not see a Marshall yesterday. I realize the course has a Men’s League on Sunday morning. The foursome ahead of us often had just about a complete hole ahead of them empty. Most times people were leaving the green while this foursome was on the tee on the longer Par 4 holes. Very, very aggravating.
We’ll come back to Desert Sands. We are always treated well.

So many other choices…
Drove up and there was a strong sense of horse manure. Turns out close to a feed company. Small executive course that should have taken 2.5-3 hours . Took 4.5 hours. Pace of play ridiculously slow. With no Marshall helping song we were often 3 groups on the tee box. Also course was in poor shape. Had I know I would have chosen another course.

Playable good layout.
The tee boxes were shaggy and lumpy. The fairways were the same way. The layout is actually pretty nice but I’m not sure they own a lawn mower. The greens were well manicured thou

Fast round
Finished in 2.5 hours and overall an enjoyable experience. Did manage to lose a few balls in the rough that should’ve been easily findable.

Course is a great place to play challenging but not overwhelming. In good shape although rough was a alit toe long today , easy to lose a ball 4 feet off fairway. Pace of play was a little slower than I would have liked but what better place to hanging out at on a picture perfect day
I just read a review where a golfer slammed the course and neighborhood. Many courses have barren desert areas, Desert Sands offers golfers the chance to relocate the ball laterally without penalty from these areas. Check the score card. And as for the homes surrounding the course, if you spend your time concerned about the houses you are totally missing the point of golfing. This is a great course with good staff friendly golfers and priced fairly. Thank You Desert Sands
Time for a MAJOR overhaul of this community & course.
this course needs reinvestment of $$$$ to bring it up to standards. The desert areas are nothing more than hard pack dirt with zero landscaping plants or attention and look horrible! The modular homes that surround this course are from the 60's or 70's and many of them are very dilapidated, clearly no HOA standards.

Better course than it played
I was looking for tee times for Monday morning and they had a good deal at Desert sands, so I booked a round for myself and a friend. The weather was great, the staff I encountered were good too. The course is shorter than most I normally pay but that was ok and understood before I booked the round. The trouble came when we played the course. While it was over seeded and cut on the tee boxes, the grass on the fairways and greens were way too long. Had they given it time and finished preparing the course for winter play or done the front nine first or back nine so the course was ready I would have given the course a higher rating. I didn't care for the fact that you also had to cross Ellsworth road in a golf cart for playing part of the back nine. It'll probably be ready next week and should be fine to play then but not having played here before, I'm not sure I'd play it again.

Getting better after overseeding
Another week and greens should be great. Also fairways should be cut shorter. With overseeding, course is solid.
