Painted Mountain Golf Club
About
The Painted Mountain Golf Club is a challenging desert-style course with a variety of different tees to accommodate every age group and skill level. The course offers a lengthier challenge from the first hole, a par-5 dogleg right, to the last, which requires an approach shot over water in order to reach the green. The Painted Mountain Golf Club, in addition to the course, is also home to the John Jacob's Golf School.

green conditions Photo submitted by u000003377470 on 10/21/2019
Tee times to close together
Pace as in other reviews is an issue. Tee times are 7 minute apart. Many recreational golfers so tough to keep pace steady. Less tee times would also put less stress on the tee boxes which some were in rough shape. Great value though.
Super slow
Course was bare in a lot of spots. Painfully slow. 5.5 hours
Reseed Inconsistent
Course was in general decent condition. There was some inconsistency and the receded grass. The, gravel in the rough was irritating. Sometimes 10 yards from the fairway you would be in gravel. There were also areas that were completely dead where you would expect grass to be..
Groups of 8 and 7 ?
We were surprised to see a group of 8 playing in front of us. The ranger told us there were groups of 6 and 7 in front of them. Needless to say we were waiting a lot. Who made the decision to allow these large groups? I hope it doesn't happen again as I like playing this course.
Awesome
Had a great afternoon. The course was in nice shape
From a former PGA Professional
Here's how to make sure your guests have a sub par experience (no pun intended);
Send groups out every seven minutes.
Provide no water for players along the way.
Allow groups to play in five and six ball groups.
Allow golfers under 10 years old to be in those groups and drive golf carts!
Don't put yardage markers of any kind on the course.
Require cart-path only with no active over seed in place.
Sorry guys, but this is not how you run an operation if you want to have happy customers.
Never again.
Painted mountain is one of the worst courses I’ve ever played. Awful pace of play. Slowest round and slowest greens of my life. Please look elsewhere.
Not in good condition
The greens were not cut so it was the slowest greens we have ever played in AZ. The fairways were good; unfortunately, most of the sides of the fairways were sand with patches of grass. Some areas of the rough around the green were not cut so it took a while to find your ball. The sand traps had a lot of rocks.
You are correct the greens are very slow as we had only been open for 3 days when you played the golf course. We are working to improve the areas off the fairway to provide better playing conditions. The greens will get faster as we are starting to lower the green height gradually each week. If you would like to discuss your round further please give the Golf Shop a call at (480) 832-0156 and ask to speak with the Director of Golf.
We would love to hear why the friendliness rating was poor. Please give us a call at (480) 832-0156 and ask for the Director of Golf.
Stacking tee times 7 minutes apart when you know the majority of golfers playing here are elderly hackers is just an insane level of greed. Now pile on cart path only & you have no business setting tee times that close.
We showed up at 11am for an 11:50 tee time & finally start at 12:45 & then a 5.5 hour round of golf.
If this was the last golf course on Earth, I’d quit playing.
Starter was rude as was older cart “girl.” It seems like everyone there hates their jobs.
Also, no Marshall, so slow groups can stack everyone up & you’d have nobody to notify.
It also appears that the new seed is struggling because they’ve come out of overseed closure & the greens, fairways & rough are all ultra bushy.
If the grass needs help then close until the grass is healthy.
Whoever owns this place is ULTRA greedy.
This place used to have a driving range & they sold the land for a few homes, because greed.
There’s way better courses for way better prices.
The golf course had just opened back up from over-seed on October 6th. Cart Path Only is common for most courses coming out of over-seed for at least a few weeks. We have been cutting the greens daily and will continue to lower the greens height as the winter grass becomes more established. If you would like to discuss your round further please call the golf shop at (480) 832-0156 and ask to speak to the Director of Golf.
Painted Mountain Golf Resort was closed for over-seed on the 30th of September, we did not reopen the golf course until October 6th.
