San Tan Highlands (formerly known as The Golf Club at Johnson Ranch) boasts a championship course with a front nine that winds through the Sonoran desert and a back nine that finishes at the base of the bordering San Tan Mountains. Naturally, the first half of the golf course is relatively flat and the latter half has a hilly terrain. In contrast to its categorization as a desert course, this course has grass from the tees to the greens but the cactus-filled landscape definitely implies desert. The greens are quite large and undulating and the fairways are fairly open with generous landing areas. Strategically placed sand bunkers and water hazards come into play throughout the San Tan Highlands.

They are charging $20 for a bucket of balls now. That’s pretty crazy to me.

Poor Management

Trying to get a hold of the pro shop is next to impossible as you have to talk to a call service that is not in the United States. Try to book a tee time by phone is hard to understand the person on the phone as well so I book online and mad a mistake on which day we want to play. Was told I need to talk to Seth Bowman about being charged for booking the wrong day. Been trying to contact him forTEN Days but he is never at work and doesn’t return calls.

I still played the course and paid to play and then found out I was charged for not playing on the day I made mistake on the date to play.

To many other great golf course to play in Az. I recommend to steer clear of Santan Highlands as I’ve played over hundred golf course in Arizona.

Crazy amount

Crazy to see this kind of course and spend this kind of money. Went and played 2 other very nice higher end courses (Power Ranch and Poston Butte) and both cost lest for Tee times than San Tan Highlands. At least make the greens roll nice and smooth, not even worried about the dead parts on the green. Greens where looked like they just aerated it and staff said nothing and still charged over a 100.00. Pace of play was slow, Ranger told us to push the group in front of us, they were super drunk barely could get into carts. Wish they would fix the greens and make the Tee boxes more manageable. Range is okay, wish they allowed real grass to be hit off of instead of fake mats.

Business Prevention

Overall better experience this time out, but don't think about staying for a drink, or heaven forbid, dinner after yout round. Kitchen was closed when we came off the course at 4:30 and the bar closed at 5:30. They never cease to amaze me.

So slow!

We were a twosome, teed off at 9:30. We had to wait at nearly every tee box. We were a little over 4 hours and still had 4 holes to play. Had to give up as it would have taken at least another hour to finish, if not longer. Folks were like lah de dah on the greens. We never saw a marshall to even talk to about it. We are by no means really good or fast players but have never had to play anywhere at such a slow pace. Also, the 11th hole (I think, it was a par 3) had to tee off from artificial turf which sucks if you like to tee up a little. The driving range is also all artificial turf. The traffic in the town is ridiculous both morning & afternoon. We will never play there again.

Absolutely one of my favorite courses to play especially the stunning back 9 is worth the drive through Queen Creek.

Santan

There was no Marshall and the group in front of us was very slow, which pushed our pace of play to 4 1/2 hours

Same Old JR

For awhile after taking over the new management seemed to be getting things on track, but now its just like the old days. Staff is useless, course conditions have deteriorated, and no marshall to be found.
