San Tan Highlands (formerly known as The Golf Club at Johnson Ranch) boasts a championship course with a front nine that winds through the Sonoran desert and a back nine that finishes at the base of the bordering San Tan Mountains. Naturally, the first half of the golf course is relatively flat and the latter half has a hilly terrain. In contrast to its categorization as a desert course, this course has grass from the tees to the greens but the cactus-filled landscape definitely implies desert. The greens are quite large and undulating and the fairways are fairly open with generous landing areas. Strategically placed sand bunkers and water hazards come into play throughout the San Tan Highlands.

Great course

Greens spot and fast. Ball checks well and putts roll true. Great course for a great price.

Great day.

Great course. Only complaint is slow play. Waited on almost every tee box as a foursome.

Backed up

Every time we play this course there is a significant backlog of play. Pace of play is approx 4 hours but it took us closer to 5 hours! Super frustrating and no Marshalls during the week and we’ve only ever seen the occasional Marshall on a weekend ( and there seems to be no action taken). Tee times too close together is a just a money grab with little satisfaction to the golfer. It would be different if this was occasional but, in speaking with other golfers, this is not the case

The course was good staff were friendly but there was no course Marshall as was told for fridays, saturdays and sundays, so play was slower than normal. Played for 4 and a half hours and had to stop on 15th hole due to dark. The tee off times are to close together, every 8 minutes , I don’t know if this is a money grab for the course but impossible to play a full round after 2 pm

Good option for a round

This time of year it gets pretty spendy to play golf in and around Phx, so this is a nice course to play, we took a late tee time to take advantage of discount and got in the round just before sunset, so that part pretty good. Nice place, will play here again for sure.

San Tan Highlands

We had a tee time just after 1pm. They were very emphatic about they had course rangers and you were expected to maintain a 4 hour pace or else?? We never saw a ranger, we were stacked up on hole 13, 3 groups deep as a group of six were playing together?? Called club house 3 times, only could talk to reservations!! No one in pro shop! No help whatsoever. We had a 5 plus hour round and couldn't finish due to darkness.......

This is just wrong. The management team needs to be relieved of their duties. Take your money an run mentality is all they are!!

Fun and different type of golf

This is true Arizona golf with natural elements. Made for very interesting play. The view from hole 16 is spectacular. Friendly staff. 9 hole breakfast deal is hard to beat; shared cart and breakfast burrito for $49.
