San Tan Highlands
About
San Tan Highlands (formerly known as The Golf Club at Johnson Ranch) boasts a championship course with a front nine that winds through the Sonoran desert and a back nine that finishes at the base of the bordering San Tan Mountains. Naturally, the first half of the golf course is relatively flat and the latter half has a hilly terrain. In contrast to its categorization as a desert course, this course has grass from the tees to the greens but the cactus-filled landscape definitely implies desert. The greens are quite large and undulating and the fairways are fairly open with generous landing areas. Strategically placed sand bunkers and water hazards come into play throughout the San Tan Highlands.

Be prepared for a long round
The front 9 was a good pace and we finished in 2 hrs and 5 minutes. The back however we waited ten minutes on every tee box resulting in a 2 hr 50 min back. The Marshall was useless and if you dont know that waiting like that destroys your game then you won't understand. Obviously people have to learn this game , but 2 balls on every box. Comeon..... We live on this course and only visit once every month or two because of this.
Blahh
Ok, fairways in ok shape. Greens pretty bumpy. Overall a 4 outta 10. Could be an amazing course with better greens keeping
Hot day
Dry in some spots on the fairways and the greens. For the most part the greens rolled ok except in the dry areas that had patches of grass.
Wonderful Surprise
The course was in excellent condition and the layout is fantastic. I enjoyed playing this course more than any other this year. I just wish I didn't live so far away (over an hour). Nonetheless, I will return!
Great value. Slow on Saturday
Cool course layout. Little bit dry. Decent greens . Back 9 is a fun.
Enjoyable round
Hadnt played in a year as prices went up more than normal during the fall/winter but got back into my comfort zone and we booked mid-week round.
Layout is always fun and course was in very good shape. looking to go back again
Unimpressed
Played this course in November and it was in much better shape then. Tee boxes very uneven and greens not much better.
WE’RE BACK!!!
I’ve lived in the East valley for over 29 years, and Johnson Ranch has been notorious for most of those years for being accommodating to the retired crowd. I’ve experienced rude clubhouse service and starters that send their buddies out ahead of paying customers. I’ve been stalked/harassed by the ranger when playing with my son, when we were not the reason for slow play…
All that to say: this recent round was the first since 2018, for me. I played with my BIL and he brought his daughter—a very well behaved 2.5 yo. Everyone was downright pleasant. The starter was friendly. The pace was great—we were not pushing or being pushed, though things got a little bunched at on hole 11, as it does sometimes. The course was in great shape! I’ll be returning soon!!!
p.s. the rebrand was a good move!!!
This course seems to be in excellent shape, I played it before when it was Johnson Ranch and it was never in as good a shape as it was on 4/29. I will be back in the near future

Hello,
Sorry conditions were not what you expected. As the weather has started to change the grass is currently transitioning from winter grass to summer grass. This happens every year.
Thank you.
