About
San Tan Highlands (formerly known as The Golf Club at Johnson Ranch) boasts a championship course with a front nine that winds through the Sonoran desert and a back nine that finishes at the base of the bordering San Tan Mountains. Naturally, the first half of the golf course is relatively flat and the latter half has a hilly terrain. In contrast to its categorization as a desert course, this course has grass from the tees to the greens but the cactus-filled landscape definitely implies desert. The greens are quite large and undulating and the fairways are fairly open with generous landing areas. Strategically placed sand bunkers and water hazards come into play throughout the San Tan Highlands.

Perfect day
Played the course in 4 hours. Course is in great shape. Staff very friendly. Weather a bit windy but bright and sunny. $53 you can’t beat it.
Decent golf outing
Good day on course. Course was in decent shape. Quality, temperature and service of food ALL needs improvement.
Nice layout
course overall was really nice with a nice change from the front 9 to the back 9. Only poor part was the sand traps. Very hard, you couldn't really hit a sand shot out of them, basically hitting off hard gravel. Other than that, course was really fun to play.
No Value
This course could use some TLC with sand in the bunkers, level and grass tee boxes and finally a better chipping green, The chipping surface needs a closer mowing so a person can work on back spinning and stopping the golf ball.
Course still lacks sand in the bunkers and the very first green was patchy. The GPS systems are a nice touch.
Beautiful area but ridiculously slow.
We wait on almost every hole every time we golf here. No ranger to speed things up. Some tee boxes are in terrible shape and have been that way for over a year. It is a beautiful area and staff is friendly but allow at least 4.5 hours to do 18 holes.

I was paired with two people. They were high handicappers. They were also sharing one

Nice course new favorite
I played Johnson Ranch once before and remembered how nice it is.
The practice area is great.
Staff was very friendly.
Course front is tame, back nice is tricky.
Really enjoyed the course.
