San Tan Highlands (formerly known as The Golf Club at Johnson Ranch) boasts a championship course with a front nine that winds through the Sonoran desert and a back nine that finishes at the base of the bordering San Tan Mountains. Naturally, the first half of the golf course is relatively flat and the latter half has a hilly terrain. In contrast to its categorization as a desert course, this course has grass from the tees to the greens but the cactus-filled landscape definitely implies desert. The greens are quite large and undulating and the fairways are fairly open with generous landing areas. Strategically placed sand bunkers and water hazards come into play throughout the San Tan Highlands.

The course is in nice shape. Greens were tricky, especially the back 9 which has a lot of elevation changes. Pace of play was great: 4 hours to finish.

GREAT DAY OF GOLF

Never played here before. Over an hour drive but was worth it. Played with 2 buddy's and a local. Local gentleman was very nice and gave us all tips on the course. Would recommend playing here.

An hour delay and then a 5 hour round

It started with a frost delay which is no one’s fault.

However that delay was compounded by extra people without tee times being “squeezed “ in front of us.

We then waited on every shot on every hole, no Marshall’s to be seen.

We were anticipating an improvement when the course management switched from volunteers to paid staff but so far it hasn’t helped.

Cold windy and course to ourselfs

It was not a normal golf day as far as weather was concerned but we had a great day and the course especially the greens are in very nice shape. Pretty much had the course to ourselves
