About
San Tan Highlands (formerly known as The Golf Club at Johnson Ranch) boasts a championship course with a front nine that winds through the Sonoran desert and a back nine that finishes at the base of the bordering San Tan Mountains. Naturally, the first half of the golf course is relatively flat and the latter half has a hilly terrain. In contrast to its categorization as a desert course, this course has grass from the tees to the greens but the cactus-filled landscape definitely implies desert. The greens are quite large and undulating and the fairways are fairly open with generous landing areas. Strategically placed sand bunkers and water hazards come into play throughout the San Tan Highlands.

Always a great place to play
Staff from the time you arrive until you leave are very friendly. Food is great as well; we indulged in the pulled pork nachos which was enough for two people. The course was in good condition and is always challenging especially the back nine.

Charged for no fourth player
I have never had a problem with not having a fourth player and being charged later for it, email person at JR explaining the situation and got crickets even if they couldn't or wouldn't do something it would have been nice to get a response think im done with JR.

Good layout
Course was fun, with significant challenges. Staff was very helpful and friendly.. being late in the winter season, there were a number of dry grass areas in the fairways, but they were still very playable

Still zero concern regarding the pace of play
They have yet to figure out how to run this place, or that 7 minute tee times don’t work. By 7:00am, they were already 9 minutes behind. Waiting n every single shot the entire round. All they say is “real busy Saturday, and we got behind.” Same story every time we play there.

Good course, staff needs work
I understand we booked the twilight rate but if you are going to have tee times, then staff has to still be willing to help. No carts ready, didn’t want us to add a fourth person, and I told us in 4 hours we’d probably only get 9 holes in. What?!

You won't be disappointed !
I would say this is one of the best courses in Santan, QC, AJ and Mesa area. Other than the premium courses that you have to pay $$$, this is a must play course in this area. You will not be disappointed.

First time at The GC at Johnson Ranch
I was looking forward to playing a course near my new home in Queen Creek, AZ. The staff is friendly and helpful. Practice facility is good especially the putting green. There is a decidedly two different halves. The back nine gets you into the hills with great views and challenging holes. The front nine still presents its own challenges. Had to wait on the tee box a few times for the course to clear. The greens were well maintained and presented few flat areas. Looking forward to return
