Scottsdale Country Club - The Shooter

The short course at Starfire has always been a fun outing for my wife and I, and over the last 3-4 years with all the construction and renovation has become something we seek out instead of a fun alternative when booking is busy.

Well maintained tee boxes and greens make this executive layout not just a unique challenge, but also a pleasant one.

This is my first time playing this course since it’s been redone and I plan on returning when it’s completely finished. There are 10 holes on this course as of 8/22 and will say the greens are in great condition as well as the tee boxes. Where things started to get frustrating was figuring out the yardages. Neither the scorecard, the hole number, nor 18Birdies had accurate yardages and I ended up hitting it long on multiple holes since I forgot my range finder. The course was quick and fun but not worth the $50 I paid being that I could play somewhere nicer with 18 holes for the same price. Overall pin placement was fair and the theme they’re going for is fun. However, I don’t plan on coming back until they’ve completed all 12 holes under construction and have dialed in the yardages.

First time playing this course in a while. The new layout is very short and while it’s listed as a 10 hole course one hole is a pointless putting hole and most groups I saw skipped.

The greens were very hit and miss and didn’t roll great. Looks like they have been put together in a hurry.

I much preferred the old layout with longer par 3s and a par 4. Green fee of 40 bucks, considering it was over 100 and the course is very short and takes around an hour to play is is bit of a stretch ….

Went with a friend and both of us had a great time. First getting on the course it seemed shorter than we thought, but quickly we realized we would use all aspects of our game and it was fun. In particular I think this course helps you focus and work on your short game (which I need). I had a great time.

Don’t play this course. It’s a waste of time and way overpriced. All the holes are really short and feels like I’m playing a kids course they ruined it with this new update the mulligan 9 was way better.

I loved this course. Beautiful! Easy walking! Great variety to the holes and it was just plain fun! I love the hole with the huge boulder in the middle of the green! The hole over the lake was great! It was a fun and clever change to have a putt only hole in the middle of the course. We were just about to chip onto the 10th green when a coyote ran across it at 8AM! We loved watching him go by! The “9 hole putting green” was fun because we played against each other and it gave a more realistic feel to putting.

My only complaint is that most of the holes seemed to be off on the yardages compared to what was listed on the scorecard.

New practice driving range with canopy, new mats and Skytracker technology in each hitting bay. Course layout has changed making it a true par 3 layout. Course was in good condition. Nice food/drink amenities near driving range and clubhouse.

Before the “renovation” the mulligan 9 was a great executive course. Now one of the holes is on the putting green as a par 2. I am serious. They removed the middle most interesting holes to expand the main course. Range bucket is a insane $35 for a large bucket. I live 10 min away and will not play here again. Mayne $40 for playing it twice but just the short wedge 8 holes? nope. The staff are great and not their fault.

The updates made have transformed an unremarkable executive course into something worth the visit on its own.

Opportunities for fun and fulfilling shots exist for players of all ages and skill levels on this layout.

Finally having a quality public short course in this part of the valley is wonderful.

They recently got bought out, and some improvements were made to the course, but the par 3 course was made even smaller. The previous holes 5-9 are now all compressed into the previous 1-4 holes. So you basically have 9 holes alll crammed in the previous 4 holes of the 9 hole. I’ve golfed this course over 50 times, so you think I’d be excited for a new layout. But nope, they really don’t care about the par 3 course.

So many tee boxes were moved and many greens were of shorter yardages than usual. My favorite hole (# 8) was not even in use. Many tee boxes were full of divots. I was very disappointed, as I had played this course in the past two years and found it was pretty fun.

It’s always backed up. I’ve been multiple times and there’s always 2-3 carts waiting.

I realize that the course is a ‘work in progress’ however the holes need to show temporary yardage as well. The course isn’t really ready for play but so far it looks like a nice change.

We were warned of work on 3 tees. We found the fairways and tees u day construction on almost every hole. #8 was closed completely so we only got to play 8 holes total. Overall very disappointing

This course is currently being renovated so the experience could be different day to day. It’s great if you’re working on your 80 yard approach shots and the greens are well kept. Plus the new practice area and driving range look really nice. Range is still in the works but they’ve made a lot of progress. The course used to have a 350+ yard par 4 but has been converted to 3 (hopefully temporary) holes. Personal take is the experience wasn’t worth $60 bucks but if you could get in under $40, it’s a pretty quick round (under an hour and a half).
