Rating 72.7

Hillcrest Golf Club possesses a championship length course that offers a great variety of game options with five sets of tees. The course has a traditional design that features open fairways lined with trees, which put a premium on straight shots. The greens vary greatly with some that are relatively flat and medium sized and others that are quite large and dramatically sloped or multi-tiered. In addition to several sand bunkers, water hazards in the forms of lakes and ponds come into play. The signature hole is the par-5 13th, which has been touted by the Phoenix Gazette as being on of the best holes in the state. Hillcrest Golf Club not only has a dogleg around a lake, the hole requires an approach shot uphill to a green that is guarded by eight bunkers.

Finally a course with more sand rakes !

Hillcrest course was a bit rough around the edges but fairways and greens were fine. Some very large sand traps but plenty of rakes around them. Tee boxes were good condition.

They told me to replay the back nine if I didn't want to wait!!!??? I won't be back!!! Stay away from this dirty dust old course.

Unfortunately the course is dated. Some great challenging holes. Greens in Great shape. Will play it again if we get a deal on green fees but not worth full price fees.

1/3/25 Round

Really like course design and friendliness of staff.

On scale of 1-10: Greens 10; Fairways 9; Tees 8; Cart Path 5 but Rustic. There was an over watering issue but the repair parts are on order. We enjoy playing here.

Mud & bare spots

Worst conditions we ever played at Hillcrest. Looks like the course was flooded despite the last rain in Phoenix being 115 days back. Mud all over the place and bare spots instead of rough. Green on no 8 unputtable due to bird droppings. Droppings also found on most fairways.

Can you say rough and slow?

Kind of disappointed with Hillcrest this year. It had always been a little on the rough side but it seems like they have let things go a little more this year. If you're not in the fairway when you drive, it is hard pan almost everywhere. Also, the sprinkler system must be out of wack because there were some very sloppy parts on several fairways. Pace of play was close to 4 hrs 45 minutes which is pretty slow. If not for the beauty of the course layout, the day would have been a total loss. Might play it again if I can get a really low rate but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to my golfing buddies.

Very wet in a lot of spots

We played here a couple years ago and really enjoyed the round. This time I found the course had quite a very big wet spots. By spots I mean 30-40 areas and there were quite a few. The sandtraps need work too. A couple were really rocky needing more sound and they hadn’t been raked in awhile. This course is a great layout but the quality has dropped. I will definitely try again but I hope this is just maybe some watering issues.

Good morning,

Yes we had a unexpected pump issues which caused our sprinklers to shoot more water out that intended.

We have fixed the issue and should see less water areas the next couple weeks

thank you

Hillcrest

It’s in a little worse shape each time I play it, but the staff is great and the price is generally right.

Not worth the money

Greens were bumpy and players did not fix ball marks, no bar cart, overpriced for having no amenities and no bathrooms on the course.

Not worth the price

No bar cart, grass was under kept, low quality hitting mats on top of real grass at the driving range, no restrooms throughout the course, overall it had no amenities for the higher price and was not even comparable to bellair a cheaper and nicer course all around. Needs major change.

First 12 holes quick but last 6 slow. Good layout but course does need some rain/work.
