Hillcrest Golf Club at Sun City West
About
Hillcrest Golf Club possesses a championship length course that offers a great variety of game options with five sets of tees. The course has a traditional design that features open fairways lined with trees, which put a premium on straight shots. The greens vary greatly with some that are relatively flat and medium sized and others that are quite large and dramatically sloped or multi-tiered. In addition to several sand bunkers, water hazards in the forms of lakes and ponds come into play. The signature hole is the par-5 13th, which has been touted by the Phoenix Gazette as being on of the best holes in the state. Hillcrest Golf Club not only has a dogleg around a lake, the hole requires an approach shot uphill to a green that is guarded by eight bunkers.

Golfer Reviews
Beautiful desert golf experience
Even though the areas between the holes are not maintained very well, the fairways and greens themselves were just fine, greens were actually very good. But the most wonderful thing is the beauty of the layout. We walked, and it was like a lovely desert hike. No homes visible from most of the course, We will be back!
Hillcrest
The course is well kept for a course that is played by many. The pace was a little slow as we, a twosome followed 3 foursomes and were not offered to play through. The pathways were a little rugged and the bunkers unkept.
The course has a great layout! Condition of the course was great! Only complaint would be the pace of play....the 2 groups directly ahead of us were terrible and slowed us and groups behind us way down....waited on virtually every hole!
Good Value Course
Based on the way this course got chewed up, from the reviews, I thought this was going to be a crappy time...not the case. Weather was great and course condition was a pleasant surprise. Staff was friendly and the couple we were paired up with were friendly. I don't know what time of year people took pictures from, where the grass was dried up, but greens, fairways, and rough were all green from what I saw. Easy to moderate course with a couple/few challenging holes. Hillcrest was definitely a good value round and I definitely would recommend. Maybe not, if you are hard to please and a snob.
Great layout, good course
Very player friendly layout in good condition. Great course for the money.
4 hour midday weekend round
Had a 1:52 tee time on a Saturday. Got through 18 in 4 hours with very minimal waiting. Tee boxes, fairways and greens all in good condition. Bunkers had really bad sand. Really enjoy the layout of this course.
Cart Paths ???
Last played this course 5 years ago, was hoping to see some improvements, driving range was average so were the practice greens, the chipping area was nicer.
Starter asked us to play 90 degree cart path rule, after our drive we went down the cart path only to have it completely disappear on us and then reappear around the green, this was consistent over the whole course.
Did not see a player assistant the whole round, As many as 3 groups got bunched up at the 14th and 15th holes. Probably wont be back.
Course Conditions
The fairways and the greens were in fairly good condition however the cart paths could use a lot of help. There was no water in the water station at Tee No 4.
Course overview
The course needs more maintenance. Requesting that golfers use the 90 degree rule from the rough is fine, but the rough and the alleged cart paths were more attuned with an off road track. Greens were pock marked from the prior golfers ball marks, which are inherent in a public course where golfers do not fix their ball marks.
Enjoyable to play - Aesthetics could be enhanced
This course has great potential. The fairways are excellent and the greens are large and enjoyable to putt on. There are two areas that need to be addressed: 1. Pickup up the dead bird carcasses on the course - there were at least 3 and they were not necessarily from the night or morning of that day. They would have had to be noticed by your maintenance staff - especially when they are just off the tee boxes. 2. There are at least 3 storage/junk areas that are exposed and if fronted by vegetation or a fence the aesthetics of the course would be enhanced considerably.
Delivers
$60 to play golf in 72 degree weather in March. What more could you ask for? From checking in to enjoying a beer after on the patio, a really good golf course. You can pay so much more in Arizona in winter …. Hillcrest begs the question…. Why? Highly recommend this course
BIRDS, BIRDS, BIRDS
Which means lots of poop everywhere. I like the course. It is challenging. Would like to see it taken care of better!
