The executive-length Grass Clippings at Rolling Hills (formerly known as Rolling Hills Golf Course) provides an excellent game and it is a very player-friendly course. True to its name, the course is quite hilly causing a few elevation changes and undulating greens. The fairways are lined with pretty trees, adding some challenge and beauty to the course. There are no water hazards but there are a few strategically placed bunkers to worry about as well as some out-of-bounds stakes bordering a few of the holes. Grass Clippings at Rolling Hills consists of ten par 3s and eight par 4s. On the premises there are also practice facilities, a pro shop, and an on-site golf pro.

Changes at Rolling Hills

Hitting off mats on the front nine is not my favorite.

Losing the two par fours on the front nine also not my favorite.

They did make number nine a beautiful hole though.

Was hoping number seven was going to get a revision, nope.

Golf carts need serious attention, seat cushions torn biggest problem.

Always liked the back nine, still do.

Seems to have lost a little bit of the sweet neighborhood feel and more changes on the way.

Night golf is going to be the big draw, particularly in the warmer months, very cool idea.

Love the views and always enjoy playing there.

Good Time

Short and fun track! Mostly par 3’’s with a couple par 4’s You better be on your game because the “rolling hills” can be deceiving!! The greens and tee boxes are in great shape! I think they’ve recently done a redesign and construction. Excited to see what it’s like when it’s done!! The lights are very cool as well! They are bright and make the course very playable even after sunset!! I would play again!

Par 3 Haven

This is the 2nd time that I have played the course. It is a fun course with plenty of challenges with the hills but very little sand. There is still a great deal of the course that lacks turf in the rough. On the 10th hole, my GPS said 260 yards but the hole was closer to 170 yards. All the other distances were good. I wish we were allowed to drive the carts to the range prior to play. That is an annoyance. Can’t wait to get back there!

Stepping up the Game

Rolling Hills/Grass Clippings is going through renovations, but the curse is still very fun to play. Because of this, there are still some kinks to work out. I am excited to see the finished product. Then, these reviews will be more thoughtful and thorough.

Run from the Hills

Pay another 5-6 dollars and get a full par 72 experience elsewhere. I played at Coldwater golf course Monday. My fee there was 67. When I played here Friday this course was 62 dollars. I knew that going in but I bit the bullet cause I wanted to see how different it would be. Courses around there I will say are pricey. I don’t live in the area but out west where I live I can play at executives for half that price. When it was rolling hills it was priced fairly for an executive course. Grass clippings moved the tee boxes up on the 3 par 4s in the front nine to make them par 3s. And moved almost all other tee boxes up significantly in yardage from where they previously had it. At first from a friend I was told it was only the first hole. Mind you. Again the rates went up. To me they are catering to their night golf. This course will become a more upscaled bellair golf park.

Our first cart the brakes weren’t engaging and if you know this course there’s not very many flat surfaces to park off. Switched for a second cart and you had to push the brake just right to get it to engage. Shouldn’t have to worry about that when I’m golfing and paying the rate I paid. They literally have to pay to keep the lights on now. They are also up charging on the range balls. They are going to toptracer balls but don’t have the shot tracers installed and are charging for the service. Be aware of that.

When I first got there the young guy offered to put my bag in the cart. Pretty standard and I had no problem with it. My bag wasn’t fully strapped in though. Had I not noticed my bag would’ve eventually slipped out from under the straps. When we even switched to a second cart my bag again needed to be strapped down tighter by myself. No point in offering the gesture if you aren’t gonna do it right. The two kids also reeked of the good ol Mary Jane. Which I don’t care about. You wanna smoke grass go ahead and do it. But do the basic functions of your job correctly. Otherwise sit down and collect your check. Call me a “Karen/kevin” but I partake in MJ too every once in a while and I just get irritated when you smoke it and can’t function. You’re handling other people’s property and have no care for it. Then at the end of my round we were explaining that the brakes don’t work the guy jumps in and moves the cart forward while my bag was unstrapped and my whole bag fell onto the concrete. My 3 wood is actually chipped now because of that.

After hole 4 I contemplated going back to the clubhouse and asking for my money back but I was on vacation and I drove an hour to spend time with a friend that lives right by the course who has been wanting to play there since reopening. I can confidently say after playing here knowing the big changes this will no longer be a course I have on my list to play. I’m not paying a green fee of 62 dollars at an executive course when I know the standard fees out in surprise/sun city for a par 71-72 are fluctuating around 68-75. And I can play at bellair for 55. If the tee boxes weren’t moved up significantly on all the holes maybe I’d let the price slide. And I know they’re just trying to grab cash quickly cause they had the bevy cart out at 7:30 in the morning with 2 groups out there. I understand it’s golf. Have fun and drink whenever I’m actually a very casual laid back golfer. But when I know I’m being taken advantage of with my wallet by an establishment it leaves a very sour taste in my mouth.

As far as the course conditions. They were fine. I don’t like that they had mats at some tee boxes. Real cheesy. The greens were very nice. I just can’t wrap my head around paying that much for less. If I could have my full refund or partial of my hard earned money back this would be the one time I ever ask for that. I never am this dissatisfied with something I pay for. And the night rounds are over 85 dollars. Have fun with that if you’re wanting to experience it.

Short, but sweet.

Course is definitely one worth checking out.. short par 3s, let's you work on your short game. Not to mention, the place has night golf.

Range finder is a plus, some areas on the course are being worked on.

Overall I recommend it 9 or 18 its a good course to play.

Cool Concept- They Need to Get Organized

Super cool to have night golf and I am sure they will work through the kinks of new operations- but we were told our online rate for 18 would not be honored/only 9 holes were available so only got half the golf of what we paid for. Hitting off mats off most tee boxes, no bays available in range, a little messy with overall operations, but will be back and sure they will figure it out over time.

Night Golf was great

The course is perfect for night golf. There is still some fine edges that need to be completed but it did not hinder our enjoyment. The staff was friendly and the taco cart was great. Overall a wonderful experience.
