Sonoran Course at Omni Tucson National Golf Resort & Spa
About
The Omni Tucson National Resort offers two championship courses that offer two distinctly different rounds. The Catalina Course, the resort's original course, offers a more traditional parkland layout while the Sonoran Course offers a challenging game of true desert golf. Although Catalina is the more famous of the two for hosting a number of PGA Tour events over the years, the Sonoran is just as formidable a test despite being 600 yards shorter than its sister course. Sonoran features a tricky, undulating terrain that is covered with 69 large, strategically placed bunkers. Two lakes come into play throughout the golf course as well. In addition to a number of challenging holes, the layout offers interesting risk-reward opportunities including drivable par 4s. One of the most notable holes is the 15th, a dramatic par 5 that requires a blind approach uphill to a bunkered green.

#16 plays fairly steeply uphill. I was 16 inches for a birdie, after hitting a solid 135 club from 109 out. Photo submitted by Jonathan5270953 on 08/14/2013

catalina course - tucson nat'l Photo submitted by bellefeuille on 11/25/2012
great course, if you can get on the other side play the Catalina course, Sonaran course is excellent too.
Beautiful faiways, smooth greens, not read too much break, and lots of fun.
Great alternative to desert golf.
Pristine course, a pleasure to play golf at such a well maintained course.
Superb Greens
Course was in great shape. Greens were running fast and true but received a ball very well. Will be back to play again!
Challenging yet Forgiving!
This is a relatively classic desert golf course with one refreshing twist: It's actually forgiving. The fairways are nice and wide open on most holes with ample room to land the "oops" tee shot. However, this is still target golf and requires course management in order to play well. I am roughly an 18 handicap at present (quite higher out here than FL) and I shot a 19 over 89.
The course is in outstanding condition and the greens roll very nicely. The fairways are plush and so much so that I struggled to get roll out on my drives with the exception of downhill fairways. The greens are receptive and a player with good ball striking will be able to stop or spin the ball back. BEWARE though, for Arizona golf the greens are faster than you'd expect and you'll blast a putt by if you aren't careful.
As far as value, it was my first time playing there (Sonoran course) and while i'd pay more to play it than your average public course, I find it hard to justify what they charge, even through golf now. Granted that it IS season around here and it IS a resort but 80-90 bucks for a round is too rich for my blood.
All in all, it was a great day and I will go back, though I might wait for season to end unless I can get a cheaper rate.
A must-play for any serious golfer.
Easy to see why this course (Catalina) has such a great history and reputation. Rounding into shape after over-seeding (cart path-only when we played); the greens have a ways to go. BTW, the mounding and bunkering around the greens are one of the most distinctive features of this course - better bring your "A (short) game." Would be nice to have a "combo" option between the red (5700) and white (6600) tees.
Great course and facilities with great people
This was the first day for Catalina after over-seeding. The tee boxes and fairways were awesome. The greens still need a little time to fill in but otherwise excellent
Excellent condition even though cart path only
Cart path only (reseeding). Excellent condition and the layout is very fair. It was very windy so more difficult than usual. Would like to replay when not so windy
Althiugh it is CP only, the course is in great condition
The greens run true and are moderate to fast. The bunkers are fair.
Grrens were not good.
TOO challenging of course for me. Greens were slow and bumpy.
tucson national opening after reseed
great shape after fall reseeding, greens rolling fast and smooth.
fairways very plush, good value!
Everything you could want in course design
Pristine condition, beautiful layout and great value for money
This was a wonderful experiance..
This was a wonderful experience.. The conditions were excellent..
Good course, Good Value for October!
Very good layout...former PGA tour site, so it was challenging for us. Fairways, tees and greens were in nice shape. The bunkers, however, were horrible. Most were hard dirt....no sand, so it was super easy to blade a shot!
Traditional style course, extremely well maintained
Traditional style course that's a pleasant change from desert style courses. Course condition is excellent, greens are semi-fast, but sufficiently soft to hold the ball. Fairways are lush and generous.
Nice course
Pleasant place to play. Scenic, course nicely maintained with a friendly stack
Challenging but scenic
Omni Tucson National is a challenging but scenic course, relatively flat but with some elevation changes.
Played this course before and have always enjoyed it.
One of the top courses in Tucson. Give it a try sometime.
Good shape for this time of year.
Considering they will be closing the course in one week, it was in great shape. As usual, the staff was great.
Very nice
I thought the course was very nice and enjoyable to play.
Great course
This old course is a classic and maintained exceedingly well, it is where the UA practices now. Fairways nice, bunkers have plenty of sand, greens medium fast and true. A great course to play and excellent value this time of year.
