El Conquistador Golf & Tennis - Canada Course
About
The Canada Course plays through forests of mesquite trees, offering a parkland atmosphere amongst a desert landscape. The natural terrain snakes through ravines and arroyos, providing several natural hazards. Considerable mounding, doglegs and elevation changes provide a varied layout, making club selection an important factor in addition to careful strategy. Golfers should be prepared to use every club in their bag. The course’s signature hole is the eighth hole, considered one of the toughest par 3s in Tucson. The hole requires players to drive the ball uphill along a narrow ridge between two Saguaro cacti, and canyons border the greens on both sides.

El Conquistador Has Seen Better Days
Previous 4* ratings do not reflect the current conditions of this course in my opinion. Friendly staff from start to finish. Driving range is in rough shape which was a harbinger of things to come. Carts are worn and in poor mechanical condition. Tees have been beaten up with the heavy volume of play but the fairways and greens are in decent condition. This is an interesting layout that is in much need of some TLC.
Nice greens.....the rest.......UMMMMMMM
I was looking forward to playing the Canada course but ended up very disappointed. Let me start with the good. The views in various places on the course were great and the greens were in good shape. That's all the positive I can report.
I understand that AZ might be in a drought situation, but it seemed like the whole golf course was not watered enough. I'm not expecting a perfect edge between the fairway grass and the dormant rough, but it seemed the rough had tons of tufts of fairway grass of just hardpan which meant you often had a bad lie if you were not in the fairway. Furthermore, even on the fairway, the course was mowed down so much and it was so dry that practically every lie was a "tight lie." I'm not that good of a golfer to always be playing from tight lies. In addition the bunkers had very little sand in them. You would easily hit the hardpan underneath the sand. The carts were old, the course had just a few water jugs, and the driving range had old yellow dilapidated balls. I paid 18.00 more to play at Arizona National and what a world of difference. Canada came accross as a cheap muni.

First Canada Round
Was staying in VRBO nearby so thought I'd try the course. Got paired up with a good group and played well (bogey golf is good for me). Layout is a bit challenging with lots of up and down terrain. Course was in good condition for this time of year. Was a bit strange to not be able to grab a drink, dog at the turn since the turn is nowhere near the clubhouse. Otherwise, had a great day.
Thank you for the 4 Star review and we appreciate your feedback. We hope to see you again in the near future.
Very nice course with fantastic views of nearby mountains.
We had a very pleasant round on a perfect day for golf. We had a 8:10 tee time and a single joined our threesome, He was about the same handicap as us and made great company. The course itself is tight and there is not GPS on carts but we had watches and laser pointers (which is a must due to elevation changes on course and how quickly the course played.
Normally hit ball about 230-240 up in Michigan. Those same drives would roll out to 280-300.
Greens were fast and true. Fairways are tight and if you slightly sprayed off fairways the ball would roll back into the fairway, balls that were more than 20 yard miss resulted in drops due to severity of cliffs In desert.
Sand traps were a bit of a mess, not much sand and plenty of rocks.
Overall a decent value compared to others in the area. Would play again.

First time on the course
Very pleasant experience. Nice layout, nice conditions
and beautiful weather. Golfed with a nice couple who were “regulars” and they were very nice and very knowledgeable of the course which really helped first time players as we were. Would definitely play again.

It was ok
I have played here many times when in Tucson and have enjoyed the course. It was very busy this time and tee times were delayed. The started disappeared 20 minutes before our tee time so, with no one on the tee, we just went ahead and teed off. Pace of play was slow - took 4 1/2 hours to play. Course conditions were fair- traps had little sand and the fairways were very thin. Greens were ok. Overall, it was just average but ok when we took into account what we paid.

My favorite Tucson area course!
I’m a snowbird from Colorado. I absolutely love this course! Such a beautiful setting and the the price is so reasonable. The staff was very attentive and range balls are included as well.

If you don't like waiting 5 minutes for every shot, then this course is not for you. With that said the course was in pretty good shape. Relatively fast greens and beautiful sites.
Thank you for your review and we appreciate your feedback as we continually seek ways to improve the customer experience.
La Canada course
Great course and they treat us great there. The Starter Tom was very friendly and remembered our names from the day before. I will definitely make a point to play here again
Thank you for the 5 star review and we appreciate the very nice staff comments. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
Excellent Value
Tucson Green fees in February can get pricey so $55 was extremely reasonable. The course can be a tricky layout in the desert setting but most holes give you plenty of room to spray the ball around. The winter grass fairways were green, not very dense and had many tight lies. The dormant Bermuda rough is mostly packed down from the carts and difficult to play from. Starter, clubhouse staff and cart guys were all very friendly.
