El Conquistador Golf & Tennis - Canada Course
About
The Canada Course plays through forests of mesquite trees, offering a parkland atmosphere amongst a desert landscape. The natural terrain snakes through ravines and arroyos, providing several natural hazards. Considerable mounding, doglegs and elevation changes provide a varied layout, making club selection an important factor in addition to careful strategy. Golfers should be prepared to use every club in their bag. The course’s signature hole is the eighth hole, considered one of the toughest par 3s in Tucson. The hole requires players to drive the ball uphill along a narrow ridge between two Saguaro cacti, and canyons border the greens on both sides.

Typical of course condition Photo submitted by DARoyer on 03/29/2013
You had one job!
Day started off with the bag drop attendant putting our bags on the cart but he forgot to strap mine in. So naturally when I drove off my bag fell off damaging my driver (don’t care about that too much), my bag (don’t care about that too much either) and my putter (I am very upset about that). He then ran over and told me he couldn’t understand how that happened. I could.
Great Venue
We enjoyed a beautiful day and golf was good even with cart path only rule. The last four uphill holes make it very challenging
Great course to play
It was first day after over seeding and so we were cart path only but the course is in great shape.
Fun round!
Course in great shape. Greens a little hard. Did not have any problem getting ball to hole putting. Greens rolled real good.
Always enjoying playing the course.
El Conquistador Golf
I have played this course many times, but not lately. I was amazed at the condition of the course this time of year, it was PERFECT! It is a great course for all skill levels and I will play it every chance I get.
Tricky but fun
Lots of elevation changes for a desert course and fairway run offs. A little course knowledge will help
Nice Round
The course has some narrow spots, and it was not ideal weather. It was nice when we started, but heated up a bit as time wore on. There was a very slow foursome in front of us.
choose your tee box wisely
If you want to have a great day of golf make sure you are playing the yardage that fits your game. This course is usually busy and it helps if you match your game with the yardage. This course is in great shape, more golfers need to repair their ball marks on the greens though. Also fill in your divots with the sand provided.
Good course... getting better
The recent Monsoon rains have finally gotten the grass growing and the fairways are much more playable. One tip for the grounds crew... MORE GRASS! Scalped fairways are a joke and if it does not rain then WATER the course!
Other than that little rant the golf experience here is mostly positive.
Greens were about a 3 or 4 on stimpmeter... amazingly slow
Great Time Great View
El Conquistador is a great course to play. It is set close to the mountains but still plays pretty level. There is two separate courses but I played the more challenging one, La Canada. There are some holes that change in elevation which adds to the difficulty just enough to make things interesting. I would recommend it regardless of skill level.
A decent course that is getting better...
My first time playing here and frankly I was pleasantly surprised given some of the very negative reviews that have been posted recently.
Yes, the fairways are scalped and thin in places as Tucson awaits the start of the Monsoon but once the rains commence... any day now hopefully, the course should thicken up nicely.
The greens are decent and the many, many, many blind shots will challenge you, especially the first time you play here. The beverage gal came around on a regular basis and the entire staff was pleasant.
Despite being a first timer and largely thanks to the local knowledge my playing partner shared I managed to shoot my handicap and think I can do better. I'll be back!
Course needs so much work.
Terrible golf experience. Large dead patches on the fairways, bumpy greens, blind shots, rediculous course layout.
Course needs work
Exceptional people, but the course needs serious help. I guess with the heat and drought, they could not help it. Looking forward to going back when the fairways have grass.
