El Conquistador Golf & Tennis - Canada Course
About
The Canada Course plays through forests of mesquite trees, offering a parkland atmosphere amongst a desert landscape. The natural terrain snakes through ravines and arroyos, providing several natural hazards. Considerable mounding, doglegs and elevation changes provide a varied layout, making club selection an important factor in addition to careful strategy. Golfers should be prepared to use every club in their bag. The course’s signature hole is the eighth hole, considered one of the toughest par 3s in Tucson. The hole requires players to drive the ball uphill along a narrow ridge between two Saguaro cacti, and canyons border the greens on both sides.

couldnt ask for more
Professionalism from top to bottom. Having played the Duke the day before and having such a bad time, I was absolutely pleased with the round I got to play here today. Thank you 1 and all
For coming out of overseeding the course is in really good shape. Greens are medium speed but very puttable.
Thank you for your review. Cañada has certainly improved this year. Conquistador will open on the 27th of this month from overseed and is looking better than ever. Be sure to come back when both are open.

Great course everyone is very nice and welcoming the staff creates a relaxing go at your pace environment. Lots of regulars that you can tell enjoy the course and the facilities, definitely will play here again!!!
great greens
Troon has done a great job here.
The greens on the Conquistador side.were as good as I've seen in Tucson
Still need work on the fairways but all in all this is the best shape it's been in for years.
I say this begrudgingly 'cause this course always kick's my butt and did so again.
Great Value, Great Pace of Play, Very Tricky
New management has certainly improved the Canada course greatly over the past year. I was surprised to see how well the course has grown in. Its summer conditions are extremely competitive with the best Tucson has to offer right now.
The course is challenging, utilizing great elevation changes and narrow fairways to make a rather short course from the black tees, play difficult. I always recommend first time players to move up a full 300 yards from their normal distance, as the fairways are very tight, and have desert hazard all around, meaning that driver (or even 3 wood) is often not the best club off the tee to attack the pins. The greens are very fair.
Range Balls are included with the greens fees, making this a great value. Especially if combined with one of the many Restaurant combos now offered through the summer.
Pace of play is fantastic, if not too fast. My threesome finished in 3:25, and was passed by 2 twosomes.
There are lots of water stations on the course for you to refill a water bottle or cup, though restrooms on the back nine are only on the way to 10 and the 15th tee.
Sadly, this is not a walking course. But it sure is a fun course to play with some great spots to take some pictures of the Catalinas.
Thank you for taking the time to review our course. We are glad that you had a great experience. We hope to see you back on the course soon.

Very good value for an OK course
This was my second time playing the Canada course, and I definitely prefer the Conquistador course. The Canada course is less-than-attractive at its lowest elevations (e.g. old fences, sandy washes) and it includes a number of uphill holes to raised greens that I don't really enjoy. But with all that said, I played 18 holes in 3 hours and the price was very reasonable. One added benefit, the practice facilities are excellent, and are included with your greens fee.
nicest it has been 5 years
best this course has been In 5 years. it had greens that rolled (not brown and cracked).
Thank you for coming out and playing the golf course. We look forward to seeing you next.

Great fairways and greens.
The only draw back was no cart girl and having to buy a yardage book since the score card didn't have any pictures of the holes. The course was in great shape and the greens where a little slow but consistent.
Conquistador Course is better than the LaCanada Course
This was my first time playing the LaCanada course at El Conquistador; the first time I played here I played the Conquistador course. I was not given a choice of courses - I'm not sure that Conquistador was even open on this day. The LaCanada course is less aesthetically pleasing, and has a number of holes that play uphill to raised greens that are bunkered, which was a bit much for my handicap (26). Play Conquistador if you have a choice of courses.
Lovely course
We had a great morning of golf, just got too hot so we played only 11 holes. Course was in good shape. The driving range was on grass and practice balls were included in the price. Great views of the mountains. Staff was really friendly. Only problem was sometimes with signage....confusing to find red tee box on one hole. All in all was very enjoyable.
Caan-yada Course
What a treat! Troon Golf hits a home run with El Conquistador!
Strongly suggest you purchase a yardage book to get the general layout of the course(s)/greens. We went in blind and paid the price on a number of holes; just didn't know where the heck we were going!
The fairways were immaculate! The greens were a little spongy and on the slowish side. Likely from the overnight watering. But by and large, the course is fantastic!
We'll be back for more!
El Conquistador
Nice course with friendly staff. Good layout and fun to play
This Course!
Loved the course. I played the Canada course and the views and beautiful, the weather was perfect. If you love beautiful views and golf then go to this course and play. The staff is friendly and starter was nice as well. The course is in a lot better condition than when I played it back in November, which is just great to see.
What an AWFUL experience
Course itself was OK, average condition and layout. But everything else about it is just BRUTAL. Can't believe Troon manages this place this poorly - friendly outside staff but ignorant inside staff. The problems included:
Played on a perfect Wednesday at 11:50 and it was a 5-hour round. Foursome in front of us was brutally slow with nobody in front of them. Course stacked up behind them. Inexcusable.
No ranger on the course.
No beverage cart on the course.
Canada course never returns to clubhouse during the entire 18, so having nobody on the course at all means you're on your own for 5 hours. If staff in pro shop had at least mentioned that nobody was working on the course at all we could've at least prepared. Bad customer service and bad business - we would have bought food and drink from them prior to tee off.
Course has no yardages marked anywhere other than the 100/150/200 markers. No sprinkler heads are marked, no GPS on cart, no yardage guides... nothing. Not even a map of the holes on the scorecard, so you have no idea where holes go or how far anything is. Very frustrating, especially when playing holes where it's not all right there in front of you to see off the tee. Again... maybe something that the staff should mention before sending us out.
Inside staff is clueless. Every interaction with them made it clear they are inexperienced or poorly trained.
At one point I tried to call the clubhouse from the course. The phone number on the card goes to their tee time reservation system and puts you on hold for 3-5 minutes. It took three calls before someone ever picked up. Even then, once I was finally transferred to the pro shop, I got some clueless kid who said he was all alone in there. His only solution to the myriad of problems was to talk to the head pro when we finished. Needless to say, we will NEVER come back - especially with so many other options for golf in the area. Just a terrible golf experience. Nothing but a money grab by Troon and the city of Oro Valley with no regard for customer service.
