Forty-Niner Country Club
About
Situated between the Catalina and Rincon Mountains, Forty Niner Country Club runs alongside a wooded riverbed. The golf course features fairways lined with mesquites, giant cottonwoods, eucalyptus trees, and weeping willows. Desert shrubbery also lines the fairways. The course has a traditional layout that sprawls across gently rolling terrain. It's a nice walkable golf course but it's not easy. Rather than distance, this course requires accurate shot placement and careful strategy in order to maneuver the tricky doglegs and subtly elevated greens. The most difficult hole on the course comes early on. The par-4 fifth is an only seemingly narrow hole but the double-tiered green has a dramatic slope right in the center. Forty Niner Country Club finishes with a par 3 that requires a carry over water. If played smartly, it offers a great birdie opportunity.

Golf lover
This course has a warm and friendly feel and is a great value.
49
I hope to play the course when it is in better condition. They are getting ready to overseed, so it was dried out and in rough shape.
Major work required!!!!
First off the staff and pace of play were great!!!!!
With said, the condition of the course is in need of some major work…. appears to have been neglected for years.
Tee boxes: Hard, had to use a hammer like device to put in a few tees; unevenly cut; dirt/ burnt patches.
Fairways: Burnt out/ dirt patches; very little grass; unevenly cut; some weeds.
Sand Traps: Extremely hard, like hard pan) with very little sand and lots of rocks.
Greens: Dirt/ burnt patches; unevenly cut; weeds/ fungus; extremely bumpy, vast majority of the putts would not hold a line.
Recommendations
1 Water and more water
2 Seeding and maybe over seeding
3 Clear - clean sand traps, removing rocks and adding sand… if you are not able to maintain the traps, fill them in.
4 Water and water some more.
5 If funding is not an issue, then it may be time to replace the ground keepers- maintenance crew.
Unless you are a beginner, have an extremely high handicap (25+) and or simply looking for some exorcise, I would not recommend this course without a complete overhaul and maintenance.
Major Work Needed!!!!
Overall the staff and pace of play were great, but the condition of the course requires major attention! The course appears to have been neglected for years with little money, sand, grass seed, and water put back into the course.
Fairways- burnt out, no grass, dirt patches, uneven cut, weeds
Sand Traps - most have been hard pan vs a trap, with virtually no sand filled with rocks
Tee boxes - Hard, had to use something to hammer in a few tees; uneven cut; dirt patches no grass
Greens - Uneven cut, dirt/ burnt patches, fungus- weeds; every putt was bumpy, never ran true with most putts never held the line.
Recommendations
1. Water and more water - a good seeding…. Basically routine maintenance- improvement. If funding is not an issue, it’s time to replace the grounds keepers.
2. Either clear out the traps and back fill with good sand or fill it in with grass (thick rough)
Unless you are a beginner or extremely high handicap we (25+) I would stay away.
49er golf outing
Course was in good shape, no holdups on any of the holes. Only negative I had was with the sand traps, most of them were very hard except those that were very muddy. Golf shop and restaurant staff were very friendly.
First timer at this course.
Great rates, I tend to play during weekday after noon for cheaper rates. Nice electric golf carts with optional open or closed windshield. Greens were well maintained some areas of "fixing" was noticed with sinage. Water stations every couple holes with ball cleaner and fresh drinking water, unfortunately the majority were bone dry. Still being a beginner I felt the pace was wonderful wasn't feeling rushed or hurried with another group right on my heels. This had a lot to do with the day and time I imagine. (Weekday afternoon tee time)
Very Spotty
The course was very spotty. The greens were ok, but the tee boxes were overgrown, and the fairways for the most part were browning out. I guess they are preparing for over-seeding. Sand traps were 20 % sand and the rest is dirt. Not sure if they are eliminating the sand in the traps. Most courses are.
The Greens Are Open
We play here once a week. There can be some wet spots here and there.
There can be clumps of grass in places. Greens are nice. Office people are on point. After the round, bar staff friendly.
It may be a little out of the way. To me it's worth it.
Course plays much better than the reviews
Course plays much better than the reviewsFor September the course was in excellent shape some brown spots on the fairways greens are in OK. Good value for the money only 20 bucks with cart
