Situated between the Catalina and Rincon Mountains, Forty Niner Country Club runs alongside a wooded riverbed. The golf course features fairways lined with mesquites, giant cottonwoods, eucalyptus trees, and weeping willows. Desert shrubbery also lines the fairways. The course has a traditional layout that sprawls across gently rolling terrain. It's a nice walkable golf course but it's not easy. Rather than distance, this course requires accurate shot placement and careful strategy in order to maneuver the tricky doglegs and subtly elevated greens. The most difficult hole on the course comes early on. The par-4 fifth is an only seemingly narrow hole but the double-tiered green has a dramatic slope right in the center. Forty Niner Country Club finishes with a par 3 that requires a carry over water. If played smartly, it offers a great birdie opportunity.

Course is firm.

Everything around the course is firm. If you come into the greens with a high ball flight, you can hold the greens. They are a little dry, but putt true. Bunkers are firm, so you need to hit closer to the ball than you would with a normal bunker shot. Staff was excellent!!

Cement Greens

Fairways well kept, greens literally will not hold your shot. Watched beautiful chips and approach shot bounce off of the green with zero divots. Has potential to be an amazing club but it definitely takes away from the experience when the greens play like a cart path.

Overbooked

Overbooked or just a lot of slow people. Waited on every hole. 2 foursomes on every hole. Slower than normal.

Good, but could be better!

I haven’t play Forty Niners in a few years, but remembered it as a fun course. The majority of fairways are wide and there are plenty of long holes. The greens need some work, they are patchy and super fast. In addition, the course needs to be monitored for play.

Decent

Course is overall decent. Fairways and bunkers in good shape, greens are alright, bare in some spots but overall playable. Lot of blind shots off the tee so a range finder is essential. Good value for the price point. Will play again. Someone let the greenskeeper know to not cut the fringe in the same order people play. Didn’t enjoy waiting 3 minutes to hit my approach shot on the ENTIRE front 9.

Greens are Ridiculous

Overall, course is in good shape. Greens are stupid fast. 3 foot putts turn into 7.foot rolls. Can't hit for the greens, the ball just bounces off.

Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

The sun was shining, the birds were singing, the palm trees were blowing in the wind and I couldn't make a putt but it didn't matter because even a day with 3 putts is better than a day at work. From the time we arrived and used the practice area until we left, the staff made us feel welcome, especially Kenny, and it was nice to play 49R again.

The last time I play here

The greens are very inconsistent on iron shot one green will hold the next a 9 iron may bounce 10 yard high. Fairways are mediocre. If you have not played this course before use your range finder before you hit a drive so it doesn’t run through the fairway. The range balls are the worst I have ever hit!
