Situated between the Catalina and Rincon Mountains, Forty Niner Country Club runs alongside a wooded riverbed. The golf course features fairways lined with mesquites, giant cottonwoods, eucalyptus trees, and weeping willows. Desert shrubbery also lines the fairways. The course has a traditional layout that sprawls across gently rolling terrain. It's a nice walkable golf course but it's not easy. Rather than distance, this course requires accurate shot placement and careful strategy in order to maneuver the tricky doglegs and subtly elevated greens. The most difficult hole on the course comes early on. The par-4 fifth is an only seemingly narrow hole but the double-tiered green has a dramatic slope right in the center. Forty Niner Country Club finishes with a par 3 that requires a carry over water. If played smartly, it offers a great birdie opportunity.

Pace of play. No execuse
Unfortunately the foursome in front of us did not play ready golf. They were a minimum full hole behind. No Marshall no execuse.
Disappointed
Rock hard greens, poor bunkers, overall very disappointed with this course.
Drove 2 hours from Mesa to play here because of some reviews and found the course to be not what we expected.
Disappointment
Very disappointed in this course, over rated versus what I was expecting.
The greens were like putting on cement, hitting shots into the greens were impossible to judge due to how hard they were.
Bunkers lacked any sand, they were basically hard packed dirt with tiny pebbles mixed in.
Definitely will not play again, nor would I recommend to my golfing friends.
A lovely course
Course was in good condition, staff was friendly and pace of play was great. A good course for beginner to intermediate golfer.
Challenging
Nice course with some pretty scenery. Need to watch edges of fairways for hard divot like hummocky ground conditions, woods don't work. Small fast greens as described, easy to miss short putts. Direction for how to get to next hole not well marked. Many down residential streets, even going from 9 to 10 is a guess for new guests.
First timer
Greens speed varied more than normal. One had damage from oil leak from mower. Some ball washers did not have water.
Starter very friendly.
Would recommend if greens fee are close to $50.
Always nice
Friendly staff and good value. The course is long enough to challenge all types of golfers.
